Nancy Lee Hamler Obituary
Nancy Lee Hamler

Lexington - To Nancy Hamler teaching was not just a profession, it was a life style. Described as unselfish, caring and loving, Nancy's focus and energy was not only on educating her students but also molding the character of her children and grandchildren. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Nancy Lee Hamler transitioned into the loving arms of her Lord, Jesus Christ, on Mother's Day, May 13, 2018 in her home in the presence of her family after a hard fight with cancer. She was 69.

Nancy was born in Mansfield, to Joseph and Doris (Schmidt) Miller on June 16, 1948. She graduated from Madison High School as well as Ashland College earning a degree in Education. Nancy began her career teaching for Mansfield City Schools and continued teaching for Lexington Local Schools where she retired after 31 years. Even into her retirement Nancy volunteered as a reading tutor for Lexington and Mansfield City Schools. She may not have been easy on her students, but each year Nancy's classes produced some of the highest test results. Even her fellow teachers would request their own children be taught by Nancy!

On June 13, 1970 she married Thomas Hamler in the Linden Road Presbyterian Church. In many ways Tom and Nancy were inseparable. Together they shared a love for golf. Extending their interest to their two sons, the Hamlers spent many Sunday afternoons at local golf courses. She also bowled in a Monday evening league at Lex Lanes. Nancy spent her summers outside. Keeping her property in pristine condition, she'd often prune her flower garden and tend to her yard.

She was her family's "super fan", especially of her grandchildren. Cheering for them at sporting events or school functions she was a positive influence. Her desire to teach often presented itself while spending time with her grandchildren and Nancy could see the potential of a learning lesson in almost any situation. Giving and selfless, Nancy placed everyone before herself. Known as "Perfect Woman", Nancy strove for perfection in all areas. Whether in her preparation as a teacher, her outward appearance, or her many friendships, Nancy was always committed 100%.

A member of Lexington Grace Brethren Church, she volunteered for numerous church activities. She served as a deaconess, and previously taught Sunday School.

Nancy is survived by her spouse Thomas Hamler of Lexington, their sons Touby (Charity) Hamler of Lexington and Scott (Bobby) Hamler of Akron; sisters Debbie (Jack) Taylor and Linda (Richard) Knackstedt; grandchildren Elizabeth, Nicklaus, and Robert, and her many nieces and nephews.

Nancy was preceded in death by her mother and father.

Her family will receive friends Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 4-7pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where her funeral service will be held Thursday at 11am. Pastor Nathaniel Foote will officiate assisted by Dave Roberts. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions to Lexington Grace Brethren Church may be made through the funeral home.
