Robert L. Connell Sr. Obituary
Robert L. Connell, Sr.

BELLVILLE: Robert L. Connell, Sr., age 86, went home to be with his Lord and receive his reward in Heaven on February 17, 2014, following a short illness.

He was born March 30, 1927 in Bellaire the son of Don Edison and Molly (Withrow) Connell.

A U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran, Robert served in World War II. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1946 with the rank of Corporal, and remained a proud patriot serving God and country.

Hardworking and eager to support his family, Robert was employed for over 23 years as a maintenance technician at Term-O-Disc. He also worked as an Optician at Reece Optical and at the front desk at the Mansfield YMCA.

Robert loved his church. Thirty nine years ago, he was a founding member of Peoples Baptist Church in Mansfield where he served as a deacon for 30 years. Robert was also the head usher and was involved in just about everything at the church. Most of all, Robert was steadfast and faithful in his love for the Lord.

Athletic, Robert enjoyed softball, swimming, bowling and roller skating at the Coliseum in Mansfield. He also frequented the B&O bike trail and playing handball at the YMCA.

Talkative and outgoing, Bob loved to visit with people, both as a representative of his church calling on the sick, or with any person he came in contact with during his day. No matter what the conversation, Robert was always excited to tell others that he was a Christian and to share the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Warm and approachable, Bob had a way with children. They were drawn to him almost instantly, but it helped that he knew many tricks and fun games to entertain them.

A wonderful husband, supportive father, and beloved grandfather, Robert will be missed as a pillar and encourager. His kindness and zest for life was admired by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty (Burton) Connell whom he married November 26, 1965; children Barbara Harmony of Mansfield, Don and Cindy Connell of Venice, FL, Paul and Tammy Connell of Elyria, 12 grandchildren and he was blessed to be with his great grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings Jenny (Jick) Cordle of Powell, and Burt Connell of Westerville.

He was preceded in death by his son Robert L. Connell, Jr. in 2006 and a sister-in-law Ruth Connell.

Friends may call Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 4-8 pm in Peoples Baptist Church, 223 Vanderbilt Road, Mansfield, where the funeral service giving glory to God for the life of Robert Connell will be held Friday at 10 am. Pastor James Spencer will officiate and he Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will hold military honors following the service on the grounds of the church. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bus Ministry at Peoples Baptist Church or to Cleveland Clinic's 4th Angel Mentoring Program.
