Toby Ramey Obituary
Toby M. Ramey

SHELBY: Toby M. Ramey, age 29, former Shelby resident, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at his home in Galion.

Born August 9, 1981 in Shelby, he was the son of former Shelby residents, Randy and Debbie (Wagner) Ramey, of Galion, and was a 2000 graduate of Shelby Sr. High School. Toby enjoyed farming and worked for Cherwood Farms. He loved his country and, in 2000, began his career in the Ohio Air National Guard working with the 200th RED HORSE Squadron at Mansfield Lahm Guard Base. Always willing to do for others, he volunteered two of the four Guard deployment missions so fellow military personnel could stay at home. He was the recipient of the Iraq Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Expeditionary Award, Afghanistan Campaign and Global War on Terror. On June 10, 2006 he married the love of his life, Gena (Rupp) Ramey, in the tail end of a C130 Aircraft at Mansfield Lahm Airport.

He was a member of the Shelby Church of God and the Ohio Farm Bureau. Toby's passion was drums, whether he was playing the drums or listening to the Ohio State Marching Band. Besides being an Ohio State fan, he enjoyed traveling, camping, yard work, tractors, especially Case International tractors, and was known as the "Grill Master" for his accomplished grilling skills. Toby, with his happy-go-lucky personality, was loved by everyone. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his brother, Chad Ramey and special friend, Shawn Majors, of Indianapolis, IN; his in-laws, Grace Williams of Shelby and Mark Rupp of North Collins, NY; his grandmothers, Jean Wagner and Mary Katherine Ramey, both of Shelby; and Harriette Rupp of New York State; brothers-in-law, Nathan (Barbara) Rupp of Shelby and Levi Rupp of Willard; sister-in-law, Abbey Williams of Shelby; and his faithful companions, Rocketman and Mater.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Lawrence Wagner and Alex Ramey, father-in-law, Jesse Williams, and his wife's grandparents, Ellsworth Rupp, Clifford and Adelia Hussey.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, June 20, 2011 at the Church of God, London West Rd., Shelby. Reverend Rick Lewis will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby on Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial expressions may be made to the Mansfield Lahm Military Families (MLMF), 2503 Alta West Rd., Mansfield, OH 44903.
