Cleo Wayne Taylor

ONTARIO: Cleo Wayne Taylor, 97, of Ontario, died Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Lexington Court Care Center. Born August 18, 1916 in Troy Township, he was the son of Charles Robert and Edna M. (Wolf) Taylor.

He was a 1934 graduate of Springfield Township High School. Cleo retired from Westinghouse Electric Corp. in 1971 following 37 years of service and was sent to Iraq in 1963 to set up automated laundry facilities. Cleo then went on to open the C&T Laundromat in Shelby which he co-owned and operated for 19 years. During the late 1950's, Cleo was actively involved in the incorporation of the Village of Ontario, spending many hours from 1956 thru 1958 preparing for the incorporation. Following the incorporation of the village, Cleo served on several of the village's committees including the first village planning commission and several ad hoc committees organized to assist elected officials with the local government.

He was member of the Ontario United Methodist Church, Venus Masonic Lodge #152 F&AM and was a charter member of the Ontario Lions Club. Cleo was a skilled woodworker and avid gardener. He was a jack-of-all trades and was always keeping busy fixing something. He and his wife traveled to every state except Alaska and Hawaii. He enjoyed spending time fishing while he lived in Florida for 20 years.

He is survived by a son, Robert (Carole) Taylor of Mansfield; three grandchildren, Mandy (Tom) Roush of Mansfield, Karen Kime Burkhart and Kenny Kime both of Indianapolis, IN; four great grandchildren, Andrew (Alicia) Hoop, Logan Roush, Carson Roush and Jaxon Roush; two great-great grandchildren, Bryant Hoop and Josiah Hoop; a sister-in-law, Alice Clabaugh of Virginia; many nieces and nephews; and close family friends, Stan Cichanowicz, Frank Stumbo, Llana Kelly, Dr. Zoon Nguyen, and Dr. Gulimina Mahamuti.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2006, Gladys J. (Clabaugh) Taylor whom he married in 1935; his parents; a daughter, Tara Jo Kime; and a brother, Marvin Taylor.

Friends may visit from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at the funeral home with Rev. Chris Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ontario Lions Club, P.O. Box 103, Ontario, Ohio 44862.
