Nina Ruth Mathews

MANSFIELD: Nina Ruth Mathews, 75, of Mansfield left this world on Sunday, May 18, 2014 to be with the Lord, after a long illness, with her family by her side.

Born May 21, 1938 in Mansfield, Nina was the daughter to William S. and F. Louise (Sickels) Shambaugh. She married the love of her life, Samuel A. Mathews on April 9, 1974.

Nina was employed as a restaurant manager at the Gourmet Room, and retired from Westinghouse. She enjoyed her family and especially her companion "Macy". Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing, ceramics, cards, fishing, and spending time on Lake Erie with her husband Sam. Nina also enjoyed traveling the country in their motor home.

A devoted mother, Nina was also a friend to everyone. She was known for her selfless desire to help those in need. Nina could always find the good in anyone. She moved back home to Mansfield, from Lake Havasu in 2007.

She is survived by five children Alan (Jennifer) Bowman, Mark Coey (Roxanne Swogger), Todd (Candy) Coey, Cindy Bowman, Penny (Howard) Hogan; step children Jimmy Mathews, Dan Mathews, Lynne (Chris) Jackson, Laurie (David) Munnez, Wayne (Lynn) Mathews, Teresa Mathews Workman, Tom (Roxanne) Mathews, Paul Mathews, special friend Jeanie; sisters Jean (Renny) Crenshaw, Lois (Charles) Weeks; brother Paul (Diane) Shambaugh; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel A. Mathews, stepdaughter Kathleen Mathews Drake, father William S. Shambaugh and mother F. Louise Shambaugh.

Nina will be dearly missed by her family and especially her son Mark who was her caregiver through the long illness.

Calling hours will be Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 5-8pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Homes. Calling hours will continue Friday morning at the funeral home from 10-11am where funeral services will begin at 11am. Pastor Bruce Philippi will officiate and burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Richland County Humane Society may be made through the funeral home.
