BELLVILLE: Lowell Lee Barton, Sr., age 73, of Bellville, passed away Monday afternoon, October 18, 2010 in Liberty Care Center in Mansfield following a long illness.

He was born April 28, 1937 in Mt. Vernon, the son of K. Clay and Betty I. (Long) Barton, and was graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1955. Lowell also studied art and engineering at the Cincinnati College of Art Design.

Lowell worked as an engineer in the telecommunications industry for 50 years, living and working as a technical consultant in sixty countries. He loved to see the world, and never stopped traveling, even after his retirement in 1997.

In 1995 he moved to Thailand where he met Jintana Thunwaniwat, whom he made his wife on May 9, 1998. The couple settled in Bellville.

Lowell was an accomplished man with a multitude of talents. A born artist, he enjoyed painting and drawing, as well as architectural design. He was also an author, publishing cookbooks and an autobiography. He was an outdoorsman, world traveler, cook; the number of titles could go on!

Lowell was a member of the Honorary Order of Kentucky Colonels, and collected classic cars.

He is survived by his wife, Jintana Barton, Ph.D. of Bellville; his mother, Betty Barton of Bellville; six children, Lowell Barton, Jr. and his friend Sarah Wesselman of Belleville, IL, Robert K. and Louise Barton of Westminster, CO, Anthony and Jill Barton of Boise, ID, Kelvin and Carmen Barton of Lenexa, KA, Jenni and John Blandina of Glen Carbon, IL, and Holly Barton and her friend Justin Littrell of Columbus; 13 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; aunt, Margery Stoodt of Bellville; and several cousins and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father K. Clay Barton.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. in Owl Creek Church of the Brethren, Ankneytown. Pastor Douglas J. Pretorius will officiate. Interment will follow in Owl Creek Cemetery.
