Norbert "Norb" F. Smith

WEST MELBOURNE, FL: Norbert F. Smith, 81, formerly of Mansfield, OH, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at the West Melbourne (FL) Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Norb was born on January 3, 1932 in Norwalk, Ohio to Elmer and Louise Conney Smith. He was a 1950 graduate of Mansfield St. Peter's High School. He served as a Sergeant in the US Army in Korea, receiving Combat Infantryman and Marksman Medals. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended Franklin University before returning to Mansfield and beginning Smith Radio and TV. He then entered the construction field, becoming self-employed as a general contractor for Smith Builders. He also designed and owned The Corral Mini-Golf and Driving Range. Norb was member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Mansfield and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Melbourne, Florida. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the K of C Fourth Degree. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Norb enjoyed golfing, bowling, table tennis, playing cards, and collecting antiques with his brother-in-law, Ron. After many years of wintering in Florida, he permanently relocated to West Melbourne to be near his cherished granddaughters.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Kathleen; son Jeff (Ally); granddaughters Taylor and Ashlyn; brother Jerry (Sue) Smith; sisters Helen Augustine, Rita Rospert, Jeanette Frazzini; sister-in-law Janice Smith; and Elsie Sgambellone (companion of his brother Donald).

In addition to his parents, his brothers John, Donald, and Ray preceded him in death.

Friends may call at Herlihy-Chambers Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West, on Friday from 5-7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Fr. Jeremy Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Mansfield Catholic Cemetery with military services provided by Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail..

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Parish or the Msgr. Edward C. Dunn Foundation for Education.
