Albert Huber Obituary

Albert Brenton Huber Albert Brenton Huber (Brent) passed away in Tokyo, Japan on February 6, 2017 surrounded by his family after a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Brent was born in Berkeley, CA to Marjorie and Albert Huber Jr. on March 28, 1952, and spent his childhood in Marin County. There he attended Redwood High, spent many weekends on Mt. Tam, and relished vacations where he could jump into Lake Tahoe. He attended university at UC Davis, receiving a B.A. in Creative Communications and a teaching credential. In his freshman year at Davis, he met a woman who lived down his dorm hallway. Susan Leslie Huber and Brent celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past December. After college, Brent and Susan moved to Quincy, California in 1976, where Brent taught music at Quincy High. There he spread his love of music and theater with hundreds of students, creating the vocal jazz group Quincy Junction and directing high energy musicals. He also shared his music with the whole town, fronting the band The Banaltones as his alter-ego "Al Tempo" and producing immersive concerts and events. Somewhere in there he also had two children: Elizabeth Aria (Aria), and Albert. In 1988, Brent and Susan gathered their small children and took them off to Tokyo, where Brent worked as a music teacher at the American School in Japan. In his 29 years there, he continued to bring the joy of music to thousands of students by creating a vocal jazz group and writing/directing musicals, while also pushing the boundaries of technology in music education, eventually being recognized as an Apple Distinguished Educator. Throughout his career as a teacher, Brent not only taught students how to play and fall in love with music, but also to think and create compassionately. While not teaching or playing music, Brent loved to fly-fish (picking up the habit in his years in Quincy), travel with his family, and hunt for hidden treasures all around Tokyo and the United States. He also really loved Disneyland. His gregarious live-in-the-moment spirit will be missed dearly by everybody he touched. He is survived by his wife, Susan Leslie Huber; his two children, Albert Huber and Aria LeMenager (Sebastien); his grandchildren, Calder and Coralie LeMenager; his siblings, Scott Huber, Katharine Huber, Deborah Huber, Tracy Roberts; and five nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of Brent's life in Marin in July of 2017. Details are forthcoming. Donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at https://www.pancan.org.

Even after all these years, I still think about Mr. Huber and the impression he left on me as a student. Hope he is resting easy.

I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of Mr Huber. He was one of my most favorite teachers, I'll always remember him. He was so full of life and so kind. He was so passionate about music and inspiring his students to appreciate it as well. He let me play percussion in band class in '94-'97 and he put on musicals that were so fun and creative it was such a blast. He always supported me and my best friend Leah playing the drums and bells and we enjoyed it so much. Those were some of my favorite childhood memories. My condolences to your family. He was a great person it is a big loss. God bless him and his family.

Mr. Huber has been remembered fondly over the years, he was an inspiring teacher to say the least. I had him for English though, not for music, and still have some poetry pieces written in his class. Sincere condolences to all of his family, Rest assured he will be remembered as one of my all-time favorite teachers!

This man inspired so many people. I was honored to play in a band with him and was so excited to find such a kindred spirit who honored the power of music. I think about him every day.

Mr. Huber was my Quincy Jr./Sr. high school music teacher. I will always remember "Ease on down the road" not only because it was a great song but because he loved it so much! He was kind and funny and made all of our awkward young selves feel like we were fine exactly how we were. A genuinely kind man. I am so very sorry for your loss but I am truly thankful that I got to share him with you. It takes a pretty incredible person to stand out in my memory 38 years later! RIP Mr. Huber. May your families hearts began to heal as quickly as possible.

To all his loved ones, I send my deepest condolences for the loss of a loving and lively man. Your family, and all of us who loved him, will be in my prayers. In hopes of helping to ease your pain, I would like to share with you my words of memory and salute. He was my music teacher in Quincy - music teacher - because of him, I not only tried to play clarinet but I signed up for chorus as well. His personality and love of music were addicting. I was horrible at clarinet, really vile - I only moved up one chair from the bottom - last row but I still loved "playing" music because he taught me that even my small parts of short notes were important to create beauty. I also learned that talent is one part but dedication and practice are as important for a musician. I loved chorus, again for being a part of creating music but I was actually a tiny bit better. I finally plucked up the nerve to try-out for Quincy Junction. With an amazed look and tears in his eyes, he said to me that he was very impressed with my voice and for finally trying out - he had been urging me for 2 years. He didn't need an alto that season but his genuine words and those tears made the heartbreak mean more of a success to me than a failure. I had made Mr. Huber proud and teary-eyed! I still remember that our band won competitions that we never before had a chance of winning. I vividly remember the song we sang first semester of chorus where our harmony was perfect, "The Rose". We all had chill bumps and cried when our voices had made beautiful music and Mr. Huber jumped around and around, shouting, "Yes! Yes! Yes!" I still love and value music and musicians today because of Mr. Huber. He impacted tremendously on my life and he presence will be missed in our world. Because of him and a few others teachers, I became a teacher - to impart love of learning and subject but also to elevate and support each person who came before me, like Mr. Huber did for me. God bless him for his life, spirit and his long and wonderful legacy continues; as some my students have gone on to to teach for those reasons as well.
