Charles Sutter Clark Obituary
Charles Sutter Clark 12/21/1929 - 05/24/2018 Charles Sutter Clark was born in Santa Monica, to William and Lodema Clark. He graduated from Santa Monica High School and went on to art school where he won many awards. To serve in the military he joined the Air Force and was stationed at the airbase in Montana where he was in charge of the Cryptology unit. Following his military service he remained in Montana where he began his career as an Interior Designer. Charles' talents were wide ranging. Some of his notable clients were the Westgate family of Rutherford, CA who refurbished the Silverado Country Club, and Asian mogul Run Run Shaw whose homes he modernized. Charles' name was proposed for President of the ASID in San Francisco but he claimed that if he were elected he would decline the honor. Charles never sought accolades. All who worked with him appreciated his artistic insights and despite the notoriety of being sought after as a designer he maintained a soft spoken demeanor, always willing to give advice with perception and sprinkled with a spontaneous sense of humor. Over the span of 40 years he enjoyed close relationships with Don Suhr and Robert Ferguson of Marin County. Charles is survived by his sister Joyce Rahm, niece Julie Hinkle, nephew Steven Probst and great nieces Katherine Mueller and Jane Hinkle. He was predeceased by his brother Daniel Clark. Charles leaves behind a host of friends who will forever remember his kindness, humor and love of life.
