Geoffrey F. Barrett
Geoff passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, August 17th, 2005. Born on March 26th, 1923 in London, England, he is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth J. Barrett; daughters Marilyn and Janet and son Peter.
Geoff was best known as the father of Homestead Valley's open space, which abuts thousands of acres of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. His work was instrumental in organizing the local bond issue for the purchase of the land in the early '70s. Geoff was a self employed Structural Engineer for over 30 years in Mill Valley, CA. He was instrumental in the structural design of many buildings and structures throughout the Bay Area including the Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza. He was an avid hiker, sailor, naturalist and tennis player. Geoff served many volunteer roles in the Homestead Valley community and land trust associations. Geoff was a founding member of the Homestead Valley Land Trust and its president in 1975, 1976 and 1987. He had previously been president of the Homestead Valley Improvement Club in 1968. He was also a docent and contributed many hours of service to Audubon Canyon Ranch. Geoff was an amazing man who touched the lives of many. He will long be remembered for his kind spirit which will continue to live on within all of those who loved him.
A Memorial Service will be held in celebration of Geoff's life at Stolte Grove in Homestead Valley (Mill Valley) on Friday, August 26th at 5:00 p.m. Donations may be made to: Audubon Canyon Ranch: http://www.egret.org.
