Iris Clare Lafrenz

1922 - 2016

Iris Clare Lafrenz Passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family and friends on May 5 in Novato. Iris was born in Minnesota in 1922 and grew up in Battle Mountain, Nevada, where her father was a silver miner. Iris was the second of five children. She graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing in San Francisco (BSN) and served as an officer in the US Navy, stationed in Honolulu during WWII. She married Wallace Clendenning (Clen) in 1946 and together they raised four children. Returning to nursing she later became Assistant Director of Nursing at Kaiser Hospital, San Rafael. Some of her joys included duplicate bridge, golf, the book club, and volunteering at New Beginnings/Homeward Bound. She was predeceased by her husband, Clen, in 1998. Iris is survived by her four children Andrew Lafrenz (wife, Diane) Clare Fried (husband, Eddy), Colin Lafrenz, and Don Lafrenz, grandchildren Stephanie McCargar (fiance, John Lundquist), Abigail Lafrenz (partner, Michaela Sponza) Spencer Lafrenz (wife, Elsa), Martin Fried (wife Katie) Eric Fried (partner, Anna Fagan) and great grandchildren Adrianna, Ivy, and Penelope. Iris' life will be celebrated on Friday May 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Novato, 710 Wilson Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Homeward Bound of Marin, 1385 N. Hamilton Parkway, Novato, 94949.
