Obituary Condolences

Jeffrey Victor Powers Deputy Chief Jeff Powers, 44, left us suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, June 26th, 2008 surrounded by his beloved firehouse family that worked furiously to save his life. Jeff was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, son-in-law, friend, and a courageous 23-year veteran of the Southern Marin Fire Protection District. Jeff was born December 6th, 1963, at Marin General Hospital. He spent his entire childhood in Mill Valley, where his family has deep roots. He graduated from Marin Catholic High School in 1982 and then pursued his dream of becoming a firefighter. He began his career with the Tamalpais Fire Protection District, which merged with the Alto-Richardson Fire Protection District in 1999, to become the Southern Marin Fire Protection District. Jeff rose through the ranks to Captain, then Battalion Chief, and was named Deputy Chief in April 2007. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Pierce and Peggy Powers. Jeff will be forever missed by his wife Joann, sons, Matthew "Matt" and Anthony "Tony", his sister and brother-in-law Patrice and Michael Fiske, nephew Ian, niece Morgan, his brother and sister-in-law Steve and Susan Powers, niece Allison and nephew Adam, brother-in-law Joseph Donnici, and in-laws Liz and Rick Berry and Diane and Peter Donnici, and by all of us whose lives he touched. Jeff was an amazing father, coach, mentor and a true family man in every sense of the word. His greatest joy was being the proud father of Matt and Tony. He was always there for anyone who needed anything -- no questions asked. He was a rock, a great man, he will be truly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trust for Matthew and Anthony Powers c/o WestAmercia Bank, 64 West Blithedale Ave., Mill Valley, CA 94941. Everyone is invited to a Celebration of Jeff's Life this Tuesday, July 1st at 12:30 p.m., at Embassy Suites, San Rafael, CA.
