Jennifer Elaine (Wright) Deppmeier Obituary
Jennifer Elaine Deppmeier (Wright) After a courageous fight, Jennifer Elaine Wright Deppmeier of Santa Ynez, CA passed away May 25, 2018 surrounded by family at St. John's Medical Center in Santa Monica at age 42. Despite challenges from being diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2010, she lived life to the fullest. Born June 1, 1975 in Canoga Park, CA to Paul and Cheryl Wright, when Jennifer was in preschool, the Wrights moved to Novato, CA. She attended Novato High and cultivated a love of travel and became an exchange student. Active in the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, Jen represented the State of California in Australia. She earned her BS in Ecology and Evolution from U.C. Santa Barbara and teaching credential from CSU Channel Islands. She met her husband Tom and they married in 1999. They had two sons, Augie and Luke. She became the garden teacher at Ballard School, allowing her to pursue her two passions, gardening and teaching. The Butterfly Garden at Ballard School was her vision and will be named in her honor. A glint in her eyes, a gleaming smile, and a continual bustle in her kitchen were constants for those lucky enough to be in Jennifer's orbit. She loved hosting elaborate dinners, using organic produce from her garden. Jen adventured far and wide, from Denmark to Italy, New York to Montana. Her favorite was traveling in the family motor home, finding lakes full of trout, while spending quality time with her boys. Jennifer is survived by her husband Thomas and two sons Augustine and Luke of Santa Ynez, CA, her parents Paul and Cheryl Wright of Carpinteria, CA, her two sisters, Lani (Jack) Garfield of Palm Springs, CA and Laurie (Mark) Matthews of Carpinteria, CA as well as her supportive Deppmeier in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins and many loving friends. A celebration of Jennifer's life is scheduled for Friday, June 22nd at 5:00 PM at the Deppmeier residence. Arrangements entrusted to McDermott Crockett Mortuary, 805-569-2424.
