Paul Alan Clevenger Loving son of David and Ekaterina (Cathy), devoted brother of Andrew, left us on September 16th, 2008. A lifelong resident of Sleepy Hollow, Paul attended Brookside, Whitehill, and Drake High excelling in his studies with particular interest in languages and music. He then enrolled in College of Marin and joined 445th Civil Affairs Brigade of the Army Reserve. He was deployed to Iraq for one year where he served with honor and distinction, reaching the rank of Sergeant. After returning he attended the Defense Language Institute where he specialized in Mandarin Chinese. He later left the DLI and returned to College of Marin. His interests were many. Paul played a number of sports and instruments throughout his life. He was loved and cherished by all who knew him, and we hope he has found the peace he sought. There will be a viewing and service held at Monte's Chapel of the Hills in San Anselmo, CA. The viewing will be Friday, September 19th, 5:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday, September 20th at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Cypress Hill Memorial Park in Petaluma, CA.

Dear Clevenger Family,
I was so very sorry to hear of Paul's passing. I remember him from Kayla's classes at Brookside--he was a really good kid. I enjoyed working with Cathy as roomparents and with the Parent's Club.

I understand your pain, as my son unexpectedly passed away in May. Please contact me if you ever need to talk.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

To Paul's family,

I was so saddened to hear of your loss. I remember way back when the boys were 3 or 4 years old, our son Cole took swimming lessons with Paul. Cole served at Balad Air Base in Iraq from August 2006-Aug. 2007. My heart aches for you. The thoughts and prayers of the families of all the young men who have stepped forward to serve their country are with you now.

Clevenger Family,

I went to Drake with Paul. We had many classes together and did projects and debates as a team. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I considered Paul a good friend of mine. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Paul was an amazing and talented person with many gifts. If there is anything I can do please let me know.

One time me and the other nerds a year older than Paul were trying to push him and his equally nerdy friends out of the room they'd taken in the library. Paul stood up to us; literally, stood up and explained in a louder, stronger, adulter voice that his group wasn't budging. We weren't expecting that, and it kind of made us put our tails between our legs and we just slinked away, and at the end of the day the younger kids remained in full possession of the library room, thanks to Paul.

I hadn't talked to him since highschool, but that was the Paul I knew and grew up with: sweeter, smarter, and braver than anyone else I ever knew.

Andrew, Mr and Mrs Clevenger, you have my deepest sympathy and regret for your loss.
I considered Paul my friend.

Dear Clevenger Family,

Though I lost track of Paul after the fifth grade, I shall always remember him. He took such an avid interest in the Shrimp Club and was willing to do almost anything to help the shrimp. Paul, though very hard working and serious most of the time, would, every once in a while, have just the tiniest gleam of humor or mischief in his eye. My heart and sympathies go out to all of you for such a tragic loss of such a fine young man.

Dear Clevenger Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.

I was Paul's Team SGT for our CAT A while serving in Samarra, Iraq. The time that I had with Paul was remarkable. He was a loyal and dedicated solider who always put others before himself. Paul always brought an uplifting spirit to our team. I am saddened by your loss.

Dear Clevenger Family,

Our hearts are heavy after hearing the news about your dear son Paul. I wish we had heard earlier today because we would have attended his service as the family of another Army soldier aware of the sacrifices our soldiers have made and continue to make. Our son John went through the same schools, swim team and cub scouts with Paul. John served with the 172nd Stryker Brigade in Mosul and in Baghdad, Iraq from July, 2005 through November, 2006.

You are all in our prayers.

Kathy and David - I remember Paul from his participation in the RVCS KidTech program when he was in middle school. He was always a joy to be around... kind, good-natured, capable. I can't believe he's gone. As I'm sure you can't. I won't be able to be there tomorrow but my thoughts and prayers are with you at this terrible time. I hope you can find comfort knowing that he was well loved in the community as are both of you.

Paul was a gem--a bright young man. I am so sad for the loss of your son. Carole Lester

I am very saddened to hear about Paul and my deepest condolences go out to the entire Clevenger family. I knew Paul from high school, I was friends with his Brother Andrew. He was very talented and a great person to be around, he never passed judgment on anyone. Paul will be dearly missed, but will always be remembered for his kindness, good sense of humor, and his intelligence. Rest in Peace Paul and bless the Clevenger family with the strength to overcome.

Hang tough Andrew, keep your head up and be strong for the family. Peace Be With You
