Robert Platt Obituary

Robert Day Platt Robert Day Platt passed away on December 29, 2020. He was born on July 15, 1933 to Joseph Swan Platt and Margaret Day Platt in Columbus, OH. Bob grew up in a family of five children who all enjoyed music. Bob loved singing and after he took up the guitar and banjo, he continued to bring people together with music. Up until a few years ago, he was still singing in the community chorus at the College of Marin. Bob went to the Putney School in Vermont. The friendships formed at Putney spanned his entire life. After graduating from Harvard College, he was stationed in Europe with the Army, where he met and married Annelise Henriksen, from Denmark. They moved to Cambridge, MA where Bob attended Harvard Law School. Bob and Annelise had two children, Torben and Kirsten. In 1977, he married Bodil Klein and expanded his family to include her three sons: Stieg, Borg and Ulvar. Bob spent summers in Northport, Maine where he learned to sail, another lifelong passion. At 47, he and his wife Bodil escaped the work world and sailed their boat from Maine to Florida. They then moved to San Rafael, CA. Taking advantage of the weather and geography of California, Bob and Bodil pursued their shared passions for tennis, hiking, and traveling. They were fortunate to have children and grandchildren nearby. Bob particularly enjoyed the annual family gathering on Mount Tamalpais to celebrate Father's Day. Bob continued his legal work, focusing on criminal appeals cases. His sense of justice shaped his career and his political views throughout his life. Bob died peacefully at home, cared for by his wife, Bodil. Predeceased by his sister Emily and brother Bill; he is survived by two siblings, David and Lisa; his children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will all miss him. Gifts in memory of Bob may be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center or Hospice by the Bay.

Bob was one of my favorite tennis partners. As I haven't played for two years, I have not seen him. Bob was kind, thoughtful and respectful. I will miss him. My sympathy goes to Bodil

Bob was such a welcoming friend to my entire family when we would visit my mother on Partridge Drive.

Thinking of Bob made me look up a favorite quote from Maya Angelou: "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

Bob always made me feel welcome whenever I saw him. He made me feel like he was glad to see me, and so I was always glad to see him. Being around him always made you feel better!

He will be missed, but the older I get, the more I believe the cliché that those you have lost live on inside you. I am so glad I have Bob with me forevermore.
