Roger Burr Obituary

Dr. Roger Allen Burr, D.V.M. Was born on Christmas Day, 1925 in Boulder, Colorado. He passed away suddenly but peacefully on December 23, 2008 while surrounded by family. Roger moved to San Francisco with his parents and brother Ron in 1937 and attended Jefferson Junior High and Lincoln High School. He graduated early from Lincoln in order to enlist in the Army. He was stationed on Tinian Island which was the staging area for the bombing of Hiroshima. After his discharge Roger attended Colorado State A & M in Fort Collins, where he earned his D.V.M. in 1953. Roger built and opened his pet hospital, St. Francis Veterinary Hospital on Irving Street in San Francisco where he practiced for 35 years. He was a life-long member of the Lion's Club International, Park Presidio Chapter. He served as President of The Bay County Veterinarian Medical Association, the San Francisco Vet's Association, and served as veterinarian for the San Francisco Animal Control Commission. He also served several terms as President for the Lion's Club. He was a founding member of the Lion's Eye Foundation. He was a member of the MG Car Club, The Rough Riders. Roger was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, June Ryan Burr and by his son Roger A. Burr, II. He is survived by his brother Ronald Burr (Mary); by daughters Cynthia Christopher (Ken), Suzanne Hendriks (Paul), Charlene Figaro (Davy), Diane Nielson (David) and Sande Scott Burr. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Alexander and Cynthia Hendriks and Keaton and Alyssa Figaro. Roger is also survived by his loving friend Juliet Mills. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, January 17th at 11:00 AM at Fernwood, 301 Tennessee Valley Road, Mill Valley, California. As Roger was a founding member of the Lion's Eye Foundation, the family requests donations be sent to that organization c/o Park Presidio Lion's Club, Attn: Paul Kozakiewiez, 2039 17th Avenue, S.F. CA 94116.
