Ana Sabo Obituary

Ana Maria "Nina" Sabo (nee Lopez) August 31, 1921 - January 30, 2014 On the afternoon of Thursday, January 30, 2014, we lost our beloved Nina to respiratory failure due to complications after hip surgery. Although her passing was very unexpected, Nina's 92 years were spent touching many lives and she will always be cherished, remembered and loved more than words can express. Nina was known for being independent, loving and gracious. She was well-loved by many for her sweet and giving nature. Nina's exceptionally strong Love of God was a beautiful example of Faith for us. She will be greatly missed by her family and many lifelong and cherished friends who will remember her as a lady of elegance and dignity. Nina was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to parents Francisco Manuel Lopez and Amparo Maria Lopez de Perez. After meeting Edward Sabo at a USO dance while he was stationed in San Juan during WWII, they married in El Morro Castle in Old San Juan and Ed moved her entire family to California. Nina was blessed with 3 daughters, Sonia Linda "So" Sabo, Sandra Lea Sabo, and Stephanie Lee Marie Sabo - and she referred to them as her "3 princesses". It brings our family great peace knowing that she is reunited in Heaven with her daughter Sonia who passed in 2006. After a 32-year-marriage, Nina and Ed parted ways but remained dear friends until Ed's passing in 2007. Nina met her sweetheart James Gallagher and enjoyed 22 precious years with him until his passing in 1996. Nina began a long and fulfilling career in the jewelry business, first working in her father's jewelry store in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, during her teenage years. After having her three girls, she began working at Herbert & Rohrer's Jewelers in San Rafael in 1967. She then went to work for Granat Bros. Jewelers in Northgate Mall, and spent her last years in the jewelry business at Bailey, Banks & Biddle in Corte Madera - retiring at the young age of 88! She was a top salesperson at all locations and was respected by her peers, clients and friends. Nina is survived by her daughters Sandra Lea Sabo (aka Saundra Torres) and Stephanie Lee Marie Sabo; her granddaughters Yvette Marie and husband Douglas Scherer, granddaughter Tara Nicole Sabo (Dustin Kalteich); great grandsons Carter Vincent Johnson, Colby Vincent Scherer, Calay Edward Kalteich, and Garrett Richard Scherer; sister Gloria Lopez (93 years!); son-in-law Vicente Guerena (husband of Sonia); dear friend of almost 50 years Thelma Graves; and three generations of nieces and nephews. Nina leaves behind her beloved kitty Lovebug "Buggy" who was her pride and joy. She was predeceased by her daughter, Sonia Linda "So" Sabo Guerena, sweetheart James Gallagher, previous husband Ed Sabo, brothers Raymond Lopez and Frank Manuel Lopez, sister May Ramirez de Lopez, sister-in-law Betty Lopez (Raymond) and nieces Evelyn Pool and Gloria Callear. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church, Novato, on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at 11:00 AM. For those wishing to make a donation in Nina's memory, one can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at www.lls.org in honor of her daughter Sonia.
