Charlotte Miller Obituary

Charlotte Ann Miller

MARION: Charlotte Ann Miller, age 90, a lifelong resident of Marion, died peacefully on Monday afternoon, October 8, 2012, at the Kingston Residence surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness.

On May 30, 1922, Charlotte was born to the late Foster and Hazel (Shoots) Davidson. A lifetime resident of Marion, she graduated from Harpster High School in the Class of 1940. She later attended the Tiffin Business College.

Shortly following school, Charlotte married her high school sweetheart, Eugene "Gene" Miller, on January 16, 1943 at the Trinity Baptist Church.

In addition to being a loving homemaker tending every detail within their home, Charlotte also helped her husband on their family farm any way she could, by doing everything from driving truck and bottle feeding lambs to taking him dinner wherever he was in the field. She also had worked at Helen Cunningham's Gift Shop, the Electric Company, and the Fairpark Fabric Store.

A woman of deep faith, Charlotte had been an active member of the Central Christian Church, where she was a member of the Esther Circle and dedicated herself to teaching the two's and three's class for over 60 years. She was instrumental in starting their Shoebox Ministries, when she was 86 years young because she wanted to create "a better Christmas for children". She also was a 4-H advisor for youth and a member of the OCCL Mother's Study Club.

Charlotte had many collections, such as dolls, thimbles, and paper weights. Always keeping her hands busy, Charlotte often could be found knitting sweaters to send to Guidepost World Vision or with needle and thread making quilts for her family. Through the years, she made many of her children's clothes growing up including their wedding gowns. With a love for travelling, Charlotte and Gene enjoyed travelling all over the United States together with their beloved dogs - the most recent being Penny Suzanne.

Having a knack for cooking, Charlotte was excellent in the kitchen, but was best known for her special homemade hickory nut cakes. She also enjoyed her vegetable garden and canning. A woman of determination and strong convictions, Charlotte devoted all of herself to the things she believed in and cherished her independence. She also was the first to help whenever someone was in need.

Most important of all to Charlotte was her family, and she followed them in everything they did.

She will be dearly missed by her beloved husband, Gene Miller; two daughters, Rebecca (Michael) Thiel, and Brenda (Richard) Reish, all of Marion; four grandchildren, Anndalene (Dana) Queen, Brad (Alison Reynolds) Campbell, Katy (Ben) Milligan, and Erik Reish; seven great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Jacob, Tyson, and Brandon Queen, Faith Reynolds, and Janie and Miles Milligan; a sister-in-law, Ruth Davidson of Columbus; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Including her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by two brothers; and a sister, Richard Davidson and Willard Davidson, and Margaret Cottrell.

The Miller family will greet friends from 5 - 7 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2012, at the Central Christian Church, 421 Mt. Vernon Ave., Marion. Services celebrating her homecoming will also be held there on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Merlyn Winters officiating. Her family will again greet friends for an hour prior to her services at the church. Burial will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Christian Church, for either their General Fund or their Shoebox Ministry.

I'm so very thankful that Charlotte was my Sunday School teacher when I was three years old and my children's Sunday School teacher when they were three. She taught us everything that we needed to know... that Jesus loves us and all the children of the world... and we love you, too. Annelle, Alex, and Sarah Bushatz
