Ruby L. Iams
Marion - Ruby L. Iams, age 92, of Marion and formerly of Big Island, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at her son's home surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness.
On December 22, 1928, Ruby was born in Marion County, Ohio, the youngest of three children of the late Reuben and Grace (Baker) Snyder.
While her children were younger, Ruby was a loving homemaker caring for her family's every need all while working as a clerk at Shaffers IGA in Prospect for 20 years, retiring in 1988. Always keeping busy, she continued working cleaning houses for her family and friends.
"Quite the dancer", Ruby loved going to the Moose to dance the night away. One fateful night she reconnected with an old classmate on the dance floor, Harold Iams. They were married shortly thereafter on August 4, 2000. They shared 13 blissful years together. He preceded her in death on June 15, 2013.
Very faithful, Ruby was a member of the Green Camp United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Eagles, and the Women of the Moose.
Always in charge, Ruby was the matriarch of her family and their "master delegator". She cherished all of her friends and the staff at Kingston during her three years there, where she also loved keeping everyone busy with 300 piece jigsaw puzzles.
Ruby will be dearly missed for her outgoing, feisty spirit. She also had a "heart of gold", caring deeply for her beloved family and friends. She wore many hat's during her years with us, she was the unofficial coroner at Centerville, dance hall manager, taught the neighbor kids (Centerville Swingers) how to square dance and driving instructor for her grandkids from age 10 to12.
Left to cherish her memory are her four children: Susan (Tom) Matthews of Marengo, David Wolf of Marion, Don (Terri) Wolf, and Dennis (Jean) Wolf, both of LaRue; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren with two more on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
Including her husband and parents, Ruby was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Snyder; a sister, Betty Piper; a son-in-law, Joe Pertuset and former husband, Richard "Dick" Wolf.
Services honoring Ruby's life will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Prospect Cemetery, with Pastor Josh Freshour officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Capital City Hospice, 2800 Corporate Exchange Dr #170, Columbus, OH 43231 (
