MOUNT GILEAD: Rose Marie Petak, age 84, of Mount Gilead and formerly of Edison, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 in Mount Gilead. Rose Marie was born on September 21, 1929 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Joseph B. and Marie G. (Walker) Bradley.

She attended the Johnstown High School and graduated in the class of 1947. After high school, Rose Marie pursued her Registered Nursing degree at Mercy Hospital in Johnstown. She served as a Registered Nurse in several locations over her career and upon her retirement, she volunteered with Hospice.

On October 25, 1952, Rose Marie was united in marriage to Bernard J. Petak. Together they shared over 40 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on December 11, 1993.

In her early years, she enjoyed camping with her family. She was also very talented with crocheting, ceramics and an excellent seamstress. In her time volunteering for hospice, she enjoyed making teddy bears for the patients. Those who knew Rose Marie, knew she loved playing slot machines at various casinos. She was proud of her Irish heritage, even traveling to Ireland and enjoying some Irish Whiskey.

She is survived by her children: Kathleen (Michael) Cordle of Mount Gilead, Mark (Terri) Petak of Johnstown, PA, RoseMarie (Dave) Guthrie of Laurel, MD, Bernard (Maria) Petak of Mount Gilead and Jean (Robert Suvall) Patla of Laurel, MD; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Dot Petak, Rosie Bradley and Marie Petak; and numerous cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard Petak; and siblings: Joseph, John, Bud and Donald Bradley.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 North Main St., Mount Gilead from 4PM to 6:30PM, a Rosary Service will immediately follow at 6:30PM; Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 251 N Main St, Marion at 10:30AM with Fr. John Bakle officiating; burial will be in the Glendale Cemetery in Cardington.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rose Marie's name to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund.
