George L. Sickler

George L. Sickler, 77, Marshfield, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

George was born on April 23, 1935 in Hayward, Wisconsin, to Henry L. and Mildred (Olson) Sickler. In 1952 at the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving until his honorable discharge in 1960. He then enlisted in the United States Navy serving until his honorable discharge and retirement in 1972 at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station in Washington State. He then began working for the Washington State Patrol for 20 years, retiring in July of 1998. The Sickler's then moved to Marshfield to be with their children and grandchildren.

George was united in marriage to Joan E. Richards on May 3, 1958 at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. He received his high school diploma from Fond du Lac High School in 2005 at the age of 70.

He is survived by his wife, Joan and their children, Alan Sickler of Las Vegas, Cheryl Sickler and Kevin Sickler, both of Marshfield, and Pam (Todd) Josiger of Merrill. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Melinda (Casey) Anderson, Christopher Byrne, Elizabeth Willfahrt, Jessica Jardine, Kaisi Jardine, Dakota Ress, Tara Josiger and Jake Josiger and 10 great grandchildren. He is further survived by a sister, Tonya Taylor of Jefferson, WI.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 9, 2012 at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, with Rev. Mark Krueger officiating. Burial will take place in Veterans Field of Honor in Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Friday from 9:30 am until service time at Rembs Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital 8th floor for the care that was given to George in his final days.
