Herzberg, Leonard A. 'Zip'

Leonard A. "Zip" Herzberg, 93, of Black River Falls, WI. and formerly of Pittsville, WI., died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, in the Pine View Care Center in Black River Falls, where he had resided the past two years.

Leonard was born on May 14, 1919, in the town of Hansen, Wood County to Herman and Bertha (Hahn) Herzberg.

He married Clara Dickson on February 18, 1941, in Waukon, IA. She preceded her husband in death on July 28, 1984. He married Elsie Newby in 1985 in Pittsville. She preceded her husband in death on May 17, 2001.

Zip and his wife, Clara farmed in the town of Hansen for 16-years and moved to the town of Cary in 1956, where they farmed until retiring in 1973. The couple moved to Dexterville in 1975, where he worked for the Wood County Park System as a caretaker of the Dexterville Park.

Zip was a handy-man who was able to fix many things. He enjoyed fishing and loved to bowl.

Surviving are one son, William "Bill" (Berneice "Bee") Herzberg, Black River Falls; and one daughter, Sharon Dupee and Steve Rosseter, of Foxboro, WI.; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Herzberg, Pittsville, WI.; one sister, Clara Potts, Arpin, WI. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 10-great grandchildren, Tracy (Marti) Herzberg, Dee John (Amy) Dupee and their children, Riley, Caden, and Tru, Troy (Liz) Herzberg and their children, Zachary, Emily, and Eric, Waylon Dupee, and his children, Alexis and Morgan, Mike (Amy) Herzberg, Jolen (Jeff) Reeves and their children, Jacyn and Devin, and Stacey (Paul) Hahn.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Donald Herzberg, 2 brothers, George and Lawrence Herzberg, and 2 sisters, Mabel Thiel and Ella Grimm.

Funeral services for Leonard A. "Zip" Herzberg will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2013, from St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pittsville. Services will be conducted by Pastor Thomas Hahn. Burial will be at a later date in the Mound Cemetery in Pittsville. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until the time of services.

Memorials may be given to the church.
