Thomas Triggs Obituary

Thomas E. Triggs, 67, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 26, at the VA hospital in Leeds, MA after a courageous battle with many health issues. He was born in Springfield on February 27, 1949, the son of the late Thomas V. Triggs and Eleanor E. (Moauro) Triggs. Thomas attended Catholic schools, graduated from Cathedral in 1967, graduated from HCC and received a BA degree from AIC. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy during Vietnam state side as a hospital corpsman. He worked his way through college and was proud to have accomplished his education. Tom worked for Big Y Foods before entering the service. Tom was a devoted son and caretaker to his mother who he cherished until his illness didn’t allow him this opportunity. He enjoyed reading, especially the daily paper and Sunday paper from front to back and would engage a conversation or two about current events. He was a sports fan of the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics. Tom was given the nickname “Hooper” by his siblings in his younger days because of the many baskets he would get in the backyard games of basketball. He had a love for music and occasionally would be caught bellowing a Frank Sinatra song. He loved being with family especially during the holidays. Tom is survived by his mother who is 102 years old, a brother Daniel S. Triggs and wife Shanley of Milton, VT, a sister Arleen Collins and brother-in-law Bob of West Spfld., who cared and watched over him throughout his life, a nephew and Godson Daniel M. Triggs of Boston, MA, two nieces Elizabeth (Liz) Triggs and Margaret (Maggie) Triggs both of Vermont, many cousins and relatives from both sides of the family. The family of Thomas would like to thank all who helped Tom for their kindness and professional care given to him during his residence at Monastery Heights, the Staff at Berkshire Rehab and Skilled Center in Sandisfield, MA and especially the VA, the staff of Leeds, MA and the staff on Freedom’s Way. A special thanks also to Tom Kovar, his social worker. The funeral will be Tuesday, December 6, starting with calling hours at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home from 10:00 am to 11:30 am followed by Mass in Holy Cross Church, Springfield at 12 noon. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. For more details please go to curranjones.com. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to Springfield DAV Chapter #68 GAR Hall, 68 Court Street, Springfield, MA, 01103, Wounded Warriors or any charity of your choice.

It was a pleasure taking care of Tom at the VA. He always made us laugh and I enjoyed singing Frank Sinatra with him in the hallways.

God Speed Tommy Triggs you were a gentleman and a scholar. I will miss our banter about current events and that little mischievous twinkle in your eyes. It has been a pleasure knowing you and caring for you all of these years.

I remember Tom from our old CHS days, when I lived in Springfield, and am very sorry to hear of his passing. May God hold you forever in the palm of His hand, Tom. Rest easy.

Tom was always such a delight. The staff on the CLC heard countless hours of Toms wonderful voice singing in the halls. It was a true honor and pleasure taking care of my "Tommy two toes." You will forever be in our hearts. Thank you Tommy for touching our lives. You are only gone from our sights, but will live forever in our hearts.
