Matthew White, 39, of Springfield, MA, passed away unexpectedly on March 31 after a long, hard fought battle with a debilitating illness. He was born on New Year's Day in 1982 and lived most of his life in Western MA. Matthew attended Central High School where he excelled, academically, and graduated with honors in 1999.
Matthew was a bright, inquisitive child who loved to read and had a knack for memorizing his favorite books. You could never miss a line without him knowing! He also loved music of all genres from a very early age and, throughout his life, was rarely without the means to listen to his favorite artists. Although he excelled in all school subjects, he was a gifted writer that hoped to someday become a sports journalist or commentator. He was an avid sports fan with an exceptional memory for facts and statistics of all sorts. As an athlete, Matthew never allowed his smaller stature to be an impediment to his abilities. He was an all-star 2nd baseman described as "tenacious" by his coaches and, on the basketball court, he once scored two 3 point plays from center court during an all-star game.
Matthew will be forever missed by his parents, Robert White and Donna Rinaldi; his sister, Erin Henderson and her husband Arlynn and nieces Jacqueline and Madeline; his sister Lauren Tighe and her husband Joseph; his brother Ryan White; his grandparents John and Margaret Slater along with many beloved uncles, aunts and cousins. He is predeceased by his grandparents Richard and Jacqueline White and his "aunties", Diane Harper and Kristen Musiak.
A celebration of his life will be announced by his family soon and, because Matthew had compassion for those in need of help and support, donations may be made, in remembrance of him, to NAMI (nami.org
