Dear McAfee Family,

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. Danny's Mom contacted my mom and of course, my Mom e mailed me with this very sad news. I did not know Ryan, but I knew Danny and his family. I hope you all will be on the path of healing soon. May you all find Love and Light at this difficult time.

Danny, Linda and Lance:
I would like to express my sincere sympathy for your loss. Ryan was a ray of sunshine in this world and I will cherish my memories of him. He was truly a unique person and the way he lived is life showed his love for God and family. We know where he is now and that gives comfort to us all. You should be proud of the life he lived. He led by example, and what a wonderful example he gave us to follow. Love ya all.

Linda and family,

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I have looked from the outside at some difficult times for your family. After Danny had his wreck I know you worked so hard to hold everything together. You were and are a good mom and you will get through this. You were always encouraging to me when you would come in the bank and you are one of the people I definitely miss! You have never been someone to give up.

My sister Katie knew Ryan and is friends with Lance. It was funny to hear her talk about knowing people I only knew through a bank drive through window but I do feel as if I know your family.

Your family is in our prayers and will continue to be during these difficult times.

Danny, Linda and Lance,

Our hearts are broken at the loss of Ryan, as are many others. He was a wonderful christian young man that left an impact for Christ on many in his short time here on earth. We should all strive to leave such a legacy. Our prayer is that you will lean fully on God and that you will feel His loving arms wrapped around you, trusting that He will carry you thru this storm. We love you all very much and will be praying for you all continually.

ERIC WAS IN THE LINE OF TRAFFIC THAT DAY-NOT KNOWING IT WAS SOMEONE THAT WE KNEW. AS I COULD HEAR SIRENS GOING WEST- I PRAYED THAT IT WAS NOT SOMEONE THAT WE KNEW. I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I HEARD WHO IT WAS. NOT KNOWING RYAN LIKE WE DID LANCE DUE TO THE AGE DIFFERENCE, KRYSTLE STILL LOOKED UP TO BOTH YOUR SONS. I HAVE HEARD NOTHING BUT GOOD COMMENTS ABOUT THE TWO OF THEM. WE WERE UNABLE TO ATTEND THE SERVICE DUE TO JOBS, BUT KRYSTLE DID AND WE WERE WITH YOU IN PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS ALL DAY, AS WE STILL ARE. I KNOW TIME AND GOD WILL GET YOU THROUGH IT ALL. REFLECT BACK ON THE OLD SONG"one day at a time". LOVE TO YOU ALL ERIC & PAM WEST AND KRYSTLE COUNTZ BENNETT

Danny, Linda, and Lance, I was so shocked to read about Ryan in the paper. I moved to Illinois after Kenny's death but tried to keep up with the paper. It was extremely hard reading about Ryan's death. My heart goes out to all of you but know he is in a better place than we are. My prayers are with you and my arms are giving you all a big hug. I heard something to this effect on Little House on the Prairie once that went "Remember me with joy and laughter for that is how I will remember you. If you can only remember me with tears, don't remember me at all." I think Ryan would possibly agree with that as well.

Danny, Linda and Lance
Our hearts are deeply sorrowed to hear of the loss of Ryan. We were all blessed to have known him. Ryan was a young man to be proud of. Danny and Linda you are excellent parents who not only taught but lived a christian life in front of the boys and that shows in both Ryan and Lance. Ryan was very proud of his parents and brother. He was very strong in his faith. He will be greatly missed but we can find comfort in knowing where he is and knowing we will be able to see him again someday. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. If you anything dont hesitate to call.

Dearest Linda, Danny, Lance, & Family: Your family is such a blessing. Ryan's service was AWESOME. Lance, you did a great job honoring your brother. "Ryan's" life, and all of your lives are such a testimony to the Lord. We were so blessed to have "Ryan" as a part of our lives when he was young. He has always been a blessing and a great boy. I'm sorry we hadn't had contact with him in a while but it was obvious "Ryan" was still fun loving, a great example, a great ball player and a handsome young man. Britton's heart, as all of our hearts are broken for your loss and our loss. Many memories we will cherish. Though saddened for everyones loss we are blessed to know that our loss is heavens gain. We are blessed to know "Ryan" is with our Lord, and if we live as "Ryan" did, putting God first, we will see him again. We love each of you. You are forever in our thoughts and prayers. Philippians 4:13 Love & God Bless, Jeff, Sally, & Britton

Dear McAfee Family,

I am writing on behalf of my husband. He was one of the first vehicles to come upon the accident. After reading about Ryan, I know you can find some peace in his salvation but I also want you to know that Ryan was not alone at the scene. My husband went to Ryan and never left him. He reached out to hold his fingers very carefully and talked to him to let him know that he was there and also that help was on the way. We have two children of our own, a son 16 ½ and a 12 year old daughter. It’s amazing the impact that a stranger can make upon another. If there is peace to be found in this event just know that a loving and hurting dad was with him and stayed at his side until he was taken away from the scene. My husband called me moments after while still there to tell me about this young man he wanted to help. It was Tuesday when I heard that Ryan attended ECU. I also work at ECU. It seems somehow we feel connected to your son through this encounter in life. Just know your son touched my husband’s heart and I know he will remember Ryan for many years to come. Your son and family were in our thoughts and prayers from the time I receive my husband’s call and we will continue.

God bless

Dear McAfee Family,
Our deepest condolences to your family. No parent should ever have to lose a child. There are no words for how you must be feeling. I did not know Ryan very well, since he is a couple of years older than Kiersten but she always spoke well of him and I enjoyed watching him play basketball. He played with such enthusiasm. He will be greatly missed by so many and he has affected so many more people than he could ever have imagined. Our prayers are with you and will continue to be with you through your time of grief.

Danny, Linda, and Lance,
My heart is breaking for you. I understand the shock and horror that you are dealing with and the only place to go for peace and comfort is the Lord. Hold on to Him. He will not let you drown in the sea of grief. The best advice I can give you in the coming days and weeks is to take care of yourselves. No one knows what you are feeling and experiencing; do what is right for you; let yourselves grieve; I will be checking in on you.
You are so much in my heart and prayers as you face this mountain.
Call me any time.
Let your friends love you.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Matthew 5:4 NIV

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
Psalm 126:5 KJV

…ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
John 16:20 KJV

Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
Psalm 30:5 KJV

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19 KJV

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my savior; my God is my rock in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the strength of my salvation, and my stronghold.
