Helen M. Bailey, 90, of Slatington, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018 in Mahoning Valley Nursing & Rehab Center, Lehighton. She was the wife of the late Melvin C. Bailey, Sr., who passed away in 2008. Born in Slatington on December 14, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary (Micancin) Papay. Helen was employed as a seamstress for various mills including Paris Neckware, Robbie Sue and Fernbrook in Neffs. She was a lifelong member of Assumption BVM Catholic Church, Slatington. A wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by daughters: Diane and husband Robert Paules of State College, Mary and husband Mark Meinhart of Bowmanstown; Son: Jeffrey T. Bailey of Slatington; Grandchildren: Stephen Bailey, Angela (Shawn) Collins, Jonathan(Gretchen) Paules, Jeremy Bailey, Jesse Bailey, Meghan (Arthur) Webb, Marysa Killeen and companion Mike Beresny, Tyler Meinhart and companion Rachel Harkawik ; Great Grandchildren: Samantha, Ashley, Bailey, Brooke, Ashley, Ryan, Britta, Eleanor, Marin, Mary-Carys & Finnegan; Great-Great-Grandchildren: Serenity & Kyra. She was preceded in death by three sons; Melvin C. Jr. and his spouse Yoneko, John J., and Michael J. Bailey, a granddaughter: Rhonda Simmons, great-grandson: Robert, brothers: Thomas, John, Stephen, and Michael; sisters: Mary, Anna, Elizabeth, Veronica, and Margaret. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Assumption BVM Catholic Church, 649 W. Washington St, Slatington. A Calling period will be from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second St, Slatington and 10 to 11 AM Saturday at church. Burial will follow Mass at the parish cemetery. Contributions in Helen's memory can be made to Assumption BVM Memorial Fund.

I will always remember Helen for her gentle and sweet nature and her kindness to everyone she met. She was a gracious lady who will certainly be missed. I'm sure Melvin awaits her with open arms. Our sincerest and heartfelt sympathy to the family.
