John Witter Stewart
John Witter Stewart, of Macungie, died October 14, 2013, in his home. He was the husband of Hallie (Macdonald) Stewart, they would have been married for 50 years in November. John was born on November 9, 1939 in Boston, MA, the son of John Alexander Stewart and Marion Lee (Witter) Stewart He graduated from Lexington High School and attended Kents Hill Preparatory School in Maine post graduate. He attended Saint Lawrence University in Canton, NY where he played ice hockey. In 1959 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as an Electronics Technician 2/C aboard the USS John W. Weeks at her home port at Norfolk Naval Station, Virginia. While aboard ship John took part in the Cuban Blockade during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Navy Expeditionary Ribbon Medal, a Letter of Commendation and Good Conduct Medal. He returned to Boston in 1963 and graduated from Boston University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He earned further degrees and certificates from Cornell University and Penn State University. He retired from a long career in the manufacturing industry as Vice President having worked successively for General Electric, Ingersol Rand, and JLG Industries. In retirement John served as an adjunct professor at Penn State where he taught supply chain management and international free trade. He assisted with the U.S. Census, and volunteered for the Lehigh Valley Water Authority. John was 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Lehigh Valley Day Lodge No. 813 F&M in Macungie. He was an ordained elder and deacon in the Presbyterian Church, USA and was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Emmaus. John was an avid sailor, a stained glass artist, and enjoyed spending time with his friends on the golf course. He loved life at Wild Cherry Knoll and summers at the family beach house in Humarock Beach, MA. Survivors: John is survived by his wife and sixth grade friend, Hallie Macdonald Stewart; their son, Bruce and daughter-in-law Julia Stewart of Coppell, TX; their daughter, Heather and son-in-law Bradley Pyne of New Providence, NJ; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Alexandra, and Henry of New Providence, NJ; sister, Mary Luette and brother-in-law J. Gilbert Rodes of Williston, VT. Services: Memorial service will be held on Friday, at 2:30 p.m. at the Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. 2nd St., Emmaus, PA. Calling hour will be held on Friday, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Church.
