Whatever Makala did, she did with a passion. She loved a challenge an always put all her energy into it.
Cancer was a challenge she truly tried to overcome with all her efforts. In her mind she could, but her body said no.
When I see the picture of her with her heartwarming smile, I am reminded of the gentle and mighty person she was and the difference she made in so many lives, including mine

We´ve been thinking of you a lot the last few days. There isn´t much to say other than that there will always be a void. Pictures coming up and more reminders that you are no longer with us, but forever in our hearts. For I am grateful for the time we had and I know you´re watching over everyone. Please continue to watch over my brother and Lyndi, I know you´re with them everyday but as they embark on the next chapter of their life together. Thanks for all of the much needed talks, support and just being you. We WILL see you again.

It is still hard to believe Makala is not here with us physically, although she is always with us in spirit. She has left a lasting legacy in all of our lives.
After reviewing her obituary again and all of the wonderful tributes attached, it is clear how blessed we all were to have known her and be part of her enthusiastic world!
In loving memory,

I first met Makala about 4 years ago at one of the monthly meetings of the LV Veteran’s History Project. She would present the veteran speaking that night with a certificate from her congressman in honor of the veteran’s service. She was passionate about “her veterans “ and did whatever she could for them.
She introduced herself to me one night and I was immediately impressed by her enthusiasm for life and positive attitude. During our conversation, she learned I was the daughter of a WWII veteran who had recently died. Without hesitation, she asked if he ever received his medals. I wasn’t sure and she said she would check into it as she has helped other veterans get their medals. Together, we completed the necessary forms and when she reviewed it, she realized she and my dad shared the same birthday. This formed a special bond between us, like we were family.
It took about 8 months for the medals to be processed and when she received the shipment, she couldn’t wait to share the joy of her labor. In the package were 9 medals, including the Purple Heart and the
Bonze Star. Her efforts helped preserve my dad’s legacy in the service.
Through her short life on this earth, she left her own legacy and we were all enriched by knowing her.
Makala, my husband, Brian, and I are all alumni of Bloomsburg University.
My deepest condolences to the family ,

I met Makala when she was in 8th grade at Springhouse Middle School. She was mature for her age and already displayed leadership skills. I had the pleasure of being her science teacher in 9th grade at Parkland High School. As a junior, she took my Oceanography elective and excelled, as always. On her college letter of recommendation I wrote, “Makayla is a reliable young woman that gives 100% to every task and is a natural leader. She works very well with others.”
Over the years I have kept in contact with Makala. Discussing courses at Bloomsburg, and watch her growth into community support after graduation. She made sure that I had an invite to victory gatherings. I shared her hurdles with prayer and tears. I rejoiced in her achievements from awards to victories over her battle with cancer.
In one of my last messages to Makala I wrote, “Your fight is one that you should never have been made to fight. It’s so unfair. Yet you remain positive, which encourages me and many others going thru struggles fa less important than yours.”
Makala was a strong young woman that encouraged others. She was a fighter, and THAT is how I will always remember her. Rest peacefully, my friend. I will greatly miss your infectious laugh.

As owners of a local winery, Makala, loved to help promote us. She helped us bottle and even tried to name a wine Makala's Midnight Treat! She was passionate about life & everything she did. We knew her for just a short while, but she left a huge impact on us. We were grateful to attend the Spirit of Courage as her guests. She will be missed by all her friends and family, especially by her best friend, Lyndi! Much love to the family and friends. Heaven surely is lucky to have this strong little angel!
