David J. Schumacher Obituary
David J. Schumacher 76, of Emmaus, passed peacefully Wednesday June 6, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. David and his wife Victoria A. Cerulli were together for 25 years. Born in Scranton, Pa., David was a son of the late Jacob and Kathryn (Williams) Schumacher. David graduated from Central High School, Scranton, and then from Susquehanna University in 1964. While at Susquehanna he was the president of his fraternity Theta Chi. He was a Certified Public Accountant in Philadelphia for Ernst and Whinney which became Ernst and Young. After moving to Allentown he was a CPA and manager of Ernst and Young in Allentown. In 1980 David opened his accounting practice David J. Schumacher CPA, finally retiring in 2006. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard for four years. David espoused professionalism, integrity, and experience, all of which earned him the respect of his peers and community. He served on the Council of Churches where he contributed his time and empathy serving others. David was a long time member of Lehigh Country Club where he enjoyed golf and socializing. He earned several league championships while at Lehigh. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Allentown. After retirement he enjoyed reading, watching and feeding wild birds, completing jigsaw puzzles with his wife, his tropical fish, music, classic movies, and the Jersey Shore. Surviving with his wife Victoria are his children: Lauren wife of Sean Will of Allentown, Pete (Paige) of Midlothian, VA, and Mark (Ashley) of Emmaus. His brother Retired Brigadier General William Schumacher, and his late wife Sandra, his sister, Janet wife of Anthony Graves of Scranton. David was formerly married to Barbara (Claffee) Schumacher. David's grandchildren are: Morgan, Sarah, Katie, Jake, and Matthew. Additionally he is survived by his sister in law Mary Ann wife of Nick Balascki, his nieces and nephew: Caryl, Leslie, Jane, and Nicholas, and his loving dog Ace. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday June 10, 2018 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm in his church, 3231 Tilghman St. Allentown. Funeral Services be at 1:00 pm. The Reverend Stephen Emick will be the officiant. A reception will follow the service at Lehigh Country Club. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in David's memory the the Wildlands Conservancy, 3701 Orchid Place, Emmaus, Pa. 18049. Arrangements entrusted to the O'Donnell Funeral Home, Allentown.
