Edward Robert Loder, 83, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at home surrounded by his loving family. He and his beloved wife Catherine (Allison) Loder were married 51 years. Born in Reading, PA he was the second son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Markowski) Loder. He completed Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute, working as a tool and dye maker until enlisting in the US Army as a medic. He graduated magna cum laude from Ohio State for undergraduate and magna cum laude from Penn State for his Masters. As a school psychologist in the Allentown School District for 33 years he touched many lives. He truly lived his life by the Golden Rule. Dedicated to his wife and six daughters, he placed their needs before his own. Upon retirement, he and Catherine delighted in helping to raise ten grandchildren. Unfailingly optimistic and kindhearted, he had a ready quip or kind word for all. Edward was a member of the Cathedral of Saint Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church for 50 years. His hobbies were collecting Bing Crosby recordings and gardening. He was very proud that his garden was featured in both the Allentown and Parkland garden tours. Survivors: Wife, Catherine; daughter, Dr. Ellen Cosgrove, husband Dr. Jeff Fahl, children Daniel, Gregory, and Julia of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Nora Cosgrove of New Brunswick, NJ; daughter, Elizabeth Polony, husband Andrew, children Andrew and Christopher of Whitehall, PA; daughter, Mary Youndt, husband Larry, children Kathryn and David of Macungie; daughter, Kathleen Brand, husband Colin, children Mary and Emily of Whitehall; daughter, Theresa Loder, husband Joe, son, Michael of Allentown. He was predeceased by his brothers, James and Joseph; and his sister, Virginia (Loder) Fox. Services: Memorial, 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21, prayers and eulogy, Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 17th & Hamilton Streets, Allentown. Call 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated, 11 a.m. on Monday, May 23, Cathedral Church of St. Catharine of Siena, 18th & Turner Streets, Allentown.
