Hilma Myers Obituary
Hilma Louise Stirk Myers, 94, of Moravian Village, Bethlehem, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2012, in Walnut Creek, California. Her husband of 55 years, Dr. Raymond R. Myers, preceded her in death in 1998.Born in Bethlehem, she was the daughter of the late Preston Clinton and Minnie Maria (Dauber) Stirk. She graduated from Liberty High School in 1936, and continued to be active with her classs annual reunion committee. She also attended Moravian College and graduated from the Bethlehem Conservatory of Music. Hilma became an accomplished pianist, and started her teaching career during the depression. She expressed an early interest in music as a child, and credited her mother with fostering her love of music. She started giving harmonica lessons at the age of 12, and taught piano to children for many years. Bach became her passion, and she ushered at the Bethlehem Bach Festival for 51 years. At age 75, she learned to play the harp. She loved to travel. She also enjoyed art, and studied watercolor painting. Hilma and Raymond lived in NJ, TX, OH, and Bethlehem. She was a member of Christ Church - U.C.C., Bethlehem, and also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star. Hilma was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and devoted friend who will be remembered as gregarious, musical and dedicated. She loved Lehigh and traveling. Survivors: She is survived by her son, John C. Myers and wife Suzanne of Sarasota, FL; daughters, Louise Locke and husband Ned of Potomac, MD; and Kristen Koelmel and husband Mark of Houston, TX; five grandchildren and five and a half great-grandchildren. Services: A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 2, at 10:30 a.m. in Moravian Village, 526 Wood Street, Bethlehem. A reception will follow.
