Ruth Whitenight Obituary

Ruth I. Whitenight
Ruth I. Whitenight, 82, of Allentown, died on Friday, December 28, 2007. She was the wife of Colonel Ernest H. Fountain, U.S. Army (Retired). They would have been married 27 years in January. She spent most of her adult life living overseas as the wife of her first husband, Borrie I. Hyman, a U.S. Department of State foreign service officer and then as the wife of a career Army officer. She had overseas tours in Noumea, New Caledonia (French Overseas Territory): Tehran, Iran: Calgary and Toronto, Canada: Tokyo, Japan: Helsinki, Finland: Paris, France: and Bonn, West Germany. She received a BA degree in English from Cedar Crest College. Before being employed by the U.S. Department of State, she worked for The Morning Call and Western Electric. Later, in Washington, DC, among other agencies, she worked for the U.S. Supreme Court, retiring in 1991. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of Raymond N. and Ruth M. (Walter) Whitenight. Survivors: Husband; son, David M. Hyman and wife, Roseann, of McMurray, Pa; two daughters, Wendy M. Hyman of Berkeley, Calif., and Linda R. Hyman of Allentown; a sister, Rita A. Egge of Northampton; and three grandchildren, Clinton, Eric, and Lea. She was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy. Services: To be conducted at the masoleum at Grandview Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2008. Interment to follow. Contributions: WRRS/RADPRIN, 3835 Green Pond Rd., #335, Bethlehem, PA 18020 (WRRS/RADPRIN, located at Northampton Community College, is a radio reading service for the blind and sight-impaired. It services Lehigh and Northampton Counties and parts of the surrounding counties including New Jersey).
