Col. Klinikowski was truly a gentle warrior. When we met, he was fighting in Viet Nam and I was fighting against the War. Still, he treated me with great respect and listened carefully when I spoke.

It took a while until he revealed the Walter Klinikowski who volunteered for an extra 25 missions in one of the most dangerous assignments in World War Two. You were far more likely to hear about the fun times and the piano playing.

Then there was the Walter klinikowski who, on his first civilian resume, highlighted his ability to assemble and detonate nuclear weopons.

The world lost a good person. I hope I have the honor of calling him "friend".

So long, Uncle Walt. But I still think you knew more about "Hangar 18" at Wright Patterson AFB than you let on.
