Robert Gray III
Robert W. Gray, III, 81, of Windsor, beloved husband of the late Eleanor (Brown) Gray, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital. Born September 22, 1929, son of the late Robert W. Gray Jr. and Sara (Chapin) Gray. Robert lived in West Simsbury for many years moving to Waterford and settling in Windsor in 2008. He attended William Hall High School and graduated from Chauncy Hall in Boston, and M.I.T. with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Prior to his retirement he was an Engineer and President of Gray & Prior Machine Company in Bloomfield and was a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of CT. Robert served in the
U.S. Navy during
World War II, and was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of CT as a descendant to officers of the Revolutionary War. He was a Ham Radio operator licensed since 1950, a member of the Vintage Radio and Communication Museum of Windsor, and a 50 year member of the Amateur Radio Relay League.
Survivors: He is survived by a daughter, Sarah King and her husband Jonathan of Waterford and Windsor; two sons, Robert C. Gray and his wife Krista of Daytona Beach, FL, and John W. Gray and his wife Sara of Mesa, AZ; six grandchildren, Hadley King, Eleanor King, Ruth King, Alden King, Stella Gray, and Noah Gray; and a sister, Linda Gray Smith of Benton City, WA.
Services: A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 12 p.m. at Nisky Hill Cemetery, Bethlehem, PA, with the Rev. Roy Jacobsen officiating.
