Leon, Samuel Samuel Leon, 63 of Northampton, PA.died Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg Campus, Bethlehem, PA. Born December 15, 1950 in New York City, NY., he was the son of the late Julian Leon and Rosaura (Velez) Leon of NYC, NY. He was the husband of 26 years last April 14, 2013 to Nitza (Ramos) Leon. A 1972 graduate of Julliard School of Music earning a Bachelors degree. After graduating he began the "La Fantastica Orchestra" of New York and earned 2 Grammies with the group. He went on to make a life long career playing the saxophone. He worked for Friends Entertainment and Cruiseline Entertainment. He performed many times on P.B.S. TV. In the 70's he was the saxophonist for 4 seasons on the Saturday Night Live Show, NY. He enjoyed Doo-Wop music and was the backup Saxophonist for several well known Doo-Wop groups. He was best known as "Sammie Sax and the MD's" playing for many years throughout the nation as the lead vocal, lead saxophone playing in well known venues as, Radio City Music Hall, NY, Westbury Music Fair, Long IS., NY. During this time he became a foster father for 15 years fostering 52 children for Little Flower Children Services of NY. More recently, he and the MD's performed two special Doo-Wop presentation both at Allentown Symphony Hall, Allentown, PA., and the Roxy Movie Theatre, Northampton, PA. He was a member of the American Music Association. Survivors: Surviving along with his wife Nitza and mother Rosaura are; A Daughter; Crystal A. Leon of Northampton, PA, 2 Sons; Matthew and David, A Brother, Jose Louis Leon of New York, NY, A Sister, Madeline Leon of New York, NY; A Grandson Elijah. He was predeceased by Sister, Maria Leon in Dec. 2006. Services: Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday April 3, 2014 at Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Avenue Northampton, PA 18067. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM -9:00PM on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, and Thurs. April 3, 2014, 1:00 PM - 2:00PM prior to the services all at Schisler Funeral Home.
