Betty was born on October 27, 1921 in Visalia, CA, and died December 31, 2017 at her home in Le Grand. She was the second child of Roscoe and Marie Brandon. The Brandon's are part of a large pioneering family from the Le Grand area of Merced County. From early adolescence, Betty worked for her father, driving the tractor that pulled the grain harvester. As a teen she worked for her Uncle, Emmett Cunningham, as a cowboy and helped drive the cattle many times, from Le Grand to Jerseydale, alongside her cousin Marvin Kahl.
After graduating from Le Grand High School in 1939, she attended Lassen Junior College in Susanville, CA. While there, she was introduced to 1st Lt. C.W. "Bill" Randrup, who was home on leave. In 1941, when Bill was shipped overseas, Betty moved to Oakland to work in the Richmond Shipyards as an overhead welder.
The couple was married in Sebring, FL, on January 15, 1944. After Randrup was discharged from the Army Air Corps, the couple moved back to the Susanville area. Over the next 17 years, 5 children were born. In 1963, Betty and Bill moved the family back to Le Grand, where she resided for 54 years. Betty was very involved in her children's lives. It was common to have more than her 5 children sitting around the kitchen table, as friends were encouraged to stay for dinner. Over the years, Betty attended countless childhood activities for her children and then her grandchildren. Betty thought the best thing in the world was traveling with her children and grandchildren.
A constant in Betty's life was baseball. She loved the game. The Giants were her team, often watching them on TV and listening to radio broadcasts at the same time. Nothing was sweeter than a double play or a Buster Posey homerun.
She was a woman of grit and grace and staunch defender of her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe Clacy "Ted" and Marie Brandon, her older brother Thomas Allison Brandon and her husband of 66 years, Charles William "Bill" Randrup. She leaves behind her children. Victoria Gomes (Steve) of Merced, Mary Randrup, of Stockton, Daniel Randrup of Stockton, Jane Marchini (Joe) of Fresno and Nancy Marchini (Marty) of Le Grand. Nine grandchildren: Nicholas Gomes of Merced, Melissa Johns of San Jose, Giorgia Sumilas (Neil) of Bethesda, MD, John Marchini of Los Angeles, Clacy Randrup of Stockton, Ross Randrup of Sacramento, Caitlyn Randrup of San Francisco, Jacob Marchini of Berkeley, and Giuliana Marchini of Le Grand and five much loved great-grandchildren; Lillian, Charlotte, Amelia, William and Augustus. Also grieving for Betty are her brother, Myron Brandon and wife Shirley of Merced and her sister, Iva Dailey of Charleston, WV. and many nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Le Grand. Graveside service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Plainsburg Cemetery in Plainsburg.
