LaVerne Mae Ward
December 29, 1929 - January 7, 2018
LaVerne Ward passed away January 7, 2018 in Pahrump, Nevada. She was the eldest of five children, three sisters and one brother. LaVerne was born to Ray and Nellie (Harris) Arnold in Bloomington Ill. She was very active in the Salvation Army as a child playing instruments with her brother Donald in the Army Band, also as a Junior Soldier and later teaching Sunday School. She always was ready to do the Lord's work. She attended ST. Joseph's School of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas.
LaVerne met and Married another Salvationist, Donald Ward, whom she married in 1950. Graduating from St. Joseph's Nursing School in 1952 and giving birth to their first child, daughter DanaSue Hall(Susie) in Wichita, Kansas. They settled in Wichita for some time and added a son, Robert(Bob)Ward to their family. She worked as staff nurse in the Nursery, Medical/Surgical Floors, in Surgery, and later on as Nursing Supervisor in Wichita, in Massachuettes, in Guam and in ElPaso, Texas, following her husband's transfers in the Boeing Aircraft Company. LaVerne also returned to school to advance her Nursing Education living a short time on campus. As her family's last Boeing Transfer LaVerne arrived at Merced, Ca. She began working at Mercy Hospital in the early 1960's. She was instrumental in developing polices and procedures for local hospitals and went from Charge Nurse on Surgical Floor to 3-11 Supervisor and to Director of Nurses retiring at age 70 after 36 years of employment. She also leaves behind a brother Donald Arnold(Marilyn) and sister Ann Arnold. Besides her work, her granchildren was her life. She leaves behind grandchildren: John Luthey Jr.(Denise), Don Luthey(Kim), Natalie Mosieve(Lee), Jacob Berry, and Robert Hall. Great grandchildren: Cole and Wade Luthey, Grace and Emma Hall, and Barrett Mosieve. Many neices and nephews are also left in memory of LaVerne's love, gentleness.Several step children and step grandchildren also remain. Her Best friends Lois and Don Kope and many friends from the Atwater English Congregation of the Jehovah Witnesses. A memorial will be held at a later time.
