Maria De Fatima Feijo Medeiros
January 7, 1935 - February 27, 2018
Maria de Fatima Feijo Medeiros passed away surrounded by her loving family on February 27, 2018 at age 83 in California. Born January 7, 1935 to Manuel and Maria de Lurdes Feijo, "Fatima" was a native of Agualva, Terceira (the Azores), Portugal. She is preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Barbosa Goncalves de Medeiros, who passed away in October of 2016. They are now celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary together in Heaven.
Fatima is also preceded in death by her parents, her infant daughter, Filomena, siblings: Esmeralda Sousa and Manuel Feijo, sisters-in-law: Shirley Feijo and Ursulina Goncalves and brother-in-law Jose Sousa. Fatima is survived by her three children: Antonio Manuel Goncalves (Pam), Carlos Alberto Medeiros (Kim) and Isabel Fatima Costa; three additional siblings, Maria Costa (Antonio), Jacinto Feijo (Natal) and Dimas Feijo (Shirley) and additional brothers/sisters-in-law: Jose Goncalves and Jacinto Goncalves (Toronto), Guilhermina Soares and Maria de Jose Rocha Goncalves (San Miguel, Azores), and Teresinha Feijo (Manuel). She was Vavo to many grandchildren: Gary Goncalves, Tatiana Goncalves, Katya Goncalves, Joshua Medeiros, Michael Medeiros (Paige), Christina Medeiros, Arianna Lopez, Ernesto Aguirre, Scott Costa, Michael Costa (Megan) and Amy Costa (Patrick) and great-grandchildren: Nevaeh, Remi, McKenna, Lilly, Colette, Maxon, Mylo, and Luna. Fatima is also survived by many nieces and nephews in the Azores, Toronto and throughout California.
Fatima worked hard to raise a family and make a living in three different countries: Portugal, Canada and the United States. She learned English, how to drive and helped take care of her parents, her children and grandchildren. While she suffered from various health issues throughout most of her life, Fatima was the epitome of resilience, still celebrating all of the important occasions: weddings, anniversaries, baptisms and birthdays with her delicious food and hearty welcome.
Fatima lived with her husband for over 35 years in San Jose, California. She was well known in the Portuguese community and as a regular parishioner at Five Wounds Portuguese National Parish. Fatima will be missed by her family, friends and neighbors. On behalf of the family, we would like to thank the staff at Stacie's Chalet in Modesto and all of those who visited her there.
Please join us in celebrating Fatima's life with funeral services at St. Anthony's Catholic Church (1799 Winton Way, Atwater, California) on Thursday, March 8, starting with the rosary service at 10:30 a.m., followed by mass at 11:00 a.m., followed by her internment at Winton Cemetery (7651 Almond Avenue, Winton, California).
