Morris Michner
January 26, 1928 - April 24, 2018
Morris "Morry" Michner, 90, of Merced, California, passed away on April 24, 2018 of natural causes. Morris was born in Fresno, CA on January 26, 1928 and raised in the Jewish faith. He graduated midyear from Fresno High in 1945. He was married to Carol Harlan on November 21, 1951; they were married for 66 loving years. During his high school years Morris played football, life guarded, performed for the drama club, and worked on the family ranch outside Fresno. At the age of 17 he joined the Navy where he was on two aircraft carriers which brought sailors back from Europe at the end of WWII. His first date to Carol was at a bowling alley. Carol knew right away that she would marry the kind, hardworking man. Morris worked on their ranch until becoming a partner in the Atwater Livestock Auction Yard where he managed and auctioneered. The family moved to Merced in 1961 where they raised their three daughters. Morris worked hard his entire life and appreciated things he didn't have while growing up, including nice cars. He worked 6 days a week, but still managed to create a beautiful home garden and landscaping, and he maintained this yard with some help even until his death. For many years he played tennis with his wife and worked out at the Merced Racquet Club. He had a beautiful singing voice and participated in several of the Merced Hospital Assistance League productions. From 1970 to 1994 he donated his time to the Merced County Fair FFA and 4H Fat Stock sale as a ringman. Besides his family, Morris loved his animals - various dogs and cats; his cat Pretty Boy now misses sitting on his lap. He enjoyed some longtime friendships with Joe Foster and Ken Zimmerman.
Morris is survived by his wife Carol; daughters Teri Cook (husband Dan), Lisa Bugg (husband Marc), and Tami Michner; grandchildren Amanda Sanders, Kendal Johnson, Ryan Bugg, and Alisha Shook; and great granddaughter Meredith Sanders.
Morris was preceded in death by his parents Macia and Samuel Michner, his brother Louis, and two older sisters who died in Russia. He will be cremated and laid to rest in Belmont Memorial Park in Fresno, California. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hinds Hospice or a favorite medical charity. A celebration of his life will be planned at a later time. The family wishes to thank the staff members of Merced's Dignity Health Hospital, Park Merced Assisted Living, and Hinds Hospice who treated him with compassion and kindness. Morris always supported his family and was kind to everyone during his life; he wished that we would do likewise. He is already greatly missed.
