Vicenta "Betsy" Barajas
July 19, 1928 - April 2, 2018
Vicenta Barajas' work here on earth has been completed. She received a call on April 2, 2018 at about 8 pm with a better offer than the one she currently held. This offer from God was just too good to pass up. She understood that by taking this new position she would not be returning to her current one. We can't fault her for her decision, I mean, the "Big Guy" called and she accepted. Don't cry or be sad for her, she didn't want that. Why would she? Her new gig has benefits and perks no other gig could offer. For starters, she will receive a welcome home party where others that have taken the call before her will gather in her honor. Her daughter, Jackie; her husband, Jess; and other loved ones will be there. Her Mom and Dad will be there alongside her siblings that have preceded her in this calling. This new mission takes her to a place filled with gardens, sunny days, when she wants them, and rainy days, when her soul needs them. She'll have all the furry critters she wants around her and all the books she can possibly read. Love and laughter are guaranteed! She will get breakfast burritos any time she wants and popsicles are in endless supply. She left specific instructions for her daughter and son-in-law, she will not tolerate any crying at her going away party here on earth. Why should there be? She got the better gig in heaven and we should celebrate the gift we had of her for 89 years. She has left her job of smiling, laughing, and mostly being feisty to her survivors; her long time companion of about 30 years, Alex Flores; her daughter, Diana "Beanie" Martinez; son-in-law, Bobby Martinez; her grand daughter, Alicia "The Kid" Vartabedian; her two great grand babies and her four surviving sisters and a brother; and everyone else she touched during her life here on Earth.
A mass will be held in her honor at 10 am on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Our Lady of Mercy church in Merced. A reception for family and friends will be held after the mass.
