Virginia Gail Dyer
July 10, 1953 - June 30, 2018
Virginia Gail Dyer, 64, of Los Banos, passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones on June 30, 2018 at Stanford Hospital. Gail was born in Los Banos, California to Frank Rocha and Mary (Rocha) Cotta. She spent part of her childhood living in Sonoma where her family owned a restaurant, before returning to Los Banos. She attended Henry Miller Elementary School and then Los Banos High School where she was a majorette for the school band.
Gail met her husband, Dennis, at their good friend's wedding when they were paired up as groomsmen and bridesmaid. Little did they know they would be paired up for life. They were married in 1972 and created a beautiful life together for 42 years. She fulfilled her life-long dream of becoming a mom when she was blessed with two daughters, Whitney and Vanessa. Gail was a devoted mother and loving wife. She taught her children, through example, the value of positivity, generosity and love. She had a sense of humor that was admired by all who knew her.
As her daughters grew older, she found herself stepping up as President of the local Bobby Sox league and Manager of countless softball teams. The family spent many weekends traveling to tournaments. She was a mom-like figure to many ball players.
Gail worked at Western Valley Insurance for 34 years. She enjoyed early morning coffee conversations with her co-workers, helping her customers, and roasting fellow employees at their retirement parties.
She became known as "GG" when she had her first grandchild. She had four grandchildren in all, and cherished her special memories with each one. She found great pleasure in laughing with her grandkids and shopping for them whenever she could. Lake Tahoe is where the family gathered to vacation together and will always hold a special place in their hearts.
Along with her husband, she devoted time to the Catholic Church as a Eucharistic Minister and Confirmation teacher. She made many wonderful friends through her involvement with the church. It was her strong faith that brought her much comfort throughout the loss of her husband and battle with cancer.
Gail was aware of how fortunate she was to have the gift of time after she received her cancer diagnosis. She had many treasured relationships with family and friends with whom she never hesitated to tell how much they meant to her. In the last two and a half years, she was blessed to have the unconditional love and support from her boyfriend, Randy Rose.
Gail is preceded in death by her mother, father, step-father Lloyd Cotta, and husband Dennis. She is survived by her children, Whitney Ellis (David) of El Dorado Hills and Vanessa Tolley (Matthew) of Templeton; siblings, Ron Rocha of Sonoma, Darlene Ford (Robert) of Sonoma, Ty Cotta (Audra) of Los Banos and Frank Rocha of Los Banos; grandchildren, Ryker and Kynsi Tolley and Carter and Ruby Ellis.
The family would like to thank the community for their generosity and loving support during these difficult times and pay it forward to a kind friend who donates wigs to kids in need at Valley Children's Hospital. Donations can be made to Valley Children's Hospital (IOT) Wig Fund and mailed to Marlene Giusti 1376 E. Carlyle Way Fresno, CA 93730.
Rosary and Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Los Banos on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 10 am. Services are entrusted to Whitehurst Funeral Chapel-Los Banos.
