Denise Roslyn "DeDe" Sorensen(1961 - 2014)

Denise Roslyn "DeDe" Sorensen
Sept 5, 1961 - July 5, 2014
DeDe Sorensen passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2014. Born September 5, 1961 to Louis and Belva Verdi in Ashtabula Ohio, DeDe faced and conquered many challenges in her 52 years.
After her graduation in Asthabula, DeDe served in the US Army where she met her husband Craig Sorensen in Augsburg, Germany. They were married under the open sky of the Sawtooth Mountains in Idaho in June of 1981. In addition to Germany, she lived in numerous locations across the United States before settling in her beloved Bay Area in July of 2012.
DeDe showed a penchant for quickly learning new things, and was accomplished at many different jobs by a young age. At the age of 26, she found her true career passion in the visual arts. Completely self-taught in varied media and subject matters, her works are in collections throughout the US and UK and have been in international publications. Her artistic skills found their way to the business of art as a promoter, educator and consultant. Her passion for education extended beyond the arts, as she home-schooled three children to graduations with honors.
During her remarkable 15 month battle with cancer, she touched numerous lives as she bounced back from debilitating symptoms and numerous treatments with grace, courage and determination. Despite her own numerous challenges, she always extended herself to others in need, even in her final days. In such a remarkable and full life, it is difficult to focus on just one defining element, but it may be the larger-than-life love that seemed to drive all other things that comprised her.
DeDe is survived by her husband, Craig, and four children: Michael, Cynthia, Paul and Daniel.
A private celebration of her life will be held in the place of her wedding at a date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Sarcoma Foundation of America.
