Carol Current Obituary

Carol Current
Aug. 31, 1945 - Nov. 5, 2017
San Jose
Carol Thomases Current, 72, a longtime resident of San Jose, CA, died suddenly of a heart attack on November 5, 2017 in her husband's arms.
Carol was born on August 31, 1945 to the late John and Dorothy Marble in Binghamton, NY. She learned to sew as a child from her beloved grandmother Lucy, a skill that she would develop throughout the course of her life. She graduated from William Smith College, majoring in sociology, in 1967.
In 1970 she married Dr. Ken Thomases and raised 3 children in Newton, MA. She was an office manager for Dr. Thomases, ran a family day care business, and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and ballroom dancing.
In 1994 she moved to Mountain View, CA and later that year she married Dr. Michael Current. She and Michael lived in Austin, Texas for a number of years and then settled in San Jose, CA. Her working career in Silicon Valley included finance and office manager positions in diverse companies, including several years with the San Jose Opera.
Carol designed and sewed costumes for many theatrical productions. She also was an avid quilter and made many beautiful original quilts for family and friends. She became particularly adept at appliqué techniques and taught classes for beginners and coached many more advanced quilters. She was an active member of a number of sewing and quilting groups, including the UFOs and Sewcial Sisters, and served as treasurer of the Santa Clara Valley Quilt Association. She enjoyed her many trips to Japan, Europe and within the USA for physics conferences with Michael, where she made many dear friends. She also enjoyed her years as a docent at Filoli gardens in Woodside, CA. Water Zumba become a favorite activity later in her life, where again she made many cherished friends.
Carol was the beloved wife of Dr. Michael Current of San Jose, CA and the devoted mother of Leea Regan, married to Jim, of Melrose, MA, Dr. Becca Thomases, married to Kyung Sin, also of Melrose, MA, and Dan Thomases, with companion, Nina MacLaughlin, of Gloucester, MA. She was the cherished grandmother of Denis, Susan, Erin and Brigid Regan and Henry and Walden Thomases, who will remember her as their loving Nana.
She was buried at sea off the coast of Asilomar, CA surrounded by her entire family.
