Carol Jean Edmundson
October 1948 – May 2021
Resident of Sunnyvale
Carol died in the hospital from complications following a fall. She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1948. She moved with her parents to Mountain View in 1952 when she was three years old. She lived most of her life in Mountain View before retiring to Sunnyvale in 2014. She was active in the youth and teen programs of the First Presbyterian Church of Mountain View until her graduation from the "real" downtown Mountain View High School. She went on to San Fernando Valley State College (now Cal State Northridge) and got a degree in home economics. Following graduation she worked in several department stores, culminating as a department manager and buyer for Liberty House for 10 years in Mountain View, San Francisco and Oakland. She then went to work for Hewlett Packard as an administrative assistant where she worked in Palo Alto and Cupertino for 20 years, retiring in 2002.
In 1982 she was invited by a friend to join Los Altos Lutheran Church where she met Bruce Edmundson, whom she married there in 1983. They rejoined the First Presbyterian Church in the late 1990s. Outside of work, she was a passionate supporter of bluegrass music and volunteered many hours to several bluegrass music organizations. She and Bruce were also fans of Hawaiian slack key guitar music and all things Hawaiian, and enjoyed travelling to Hawaii and Alaska and throughout the western states. They were active members of the Jokers Square Dance Club for 10 years.
In 1998 they became the legal guardians of their identical twin grand-nephews, Chad and Devin Schaumburg, and Carol turned her attention to being a great mother and was a playground supervisor at Huff School for a few years.
Carol was predeceased by her father Allen and her nephew Ahren. In addition to Bruce, Chad, and Devin, she is survived by her 97-year-old mother, Lorraine Schaumburg, by her brother Dennis Schaumburg, two nieces, Jejelle Edmundson and Danna Newton, and many cousins.
A celebration of Carol's life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 1667 Miramonte Ave., Mountain View, on Saturday, June 26 at 1:00 pm.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Mountain View, the Monterey Bay Aquarium Foundation or the Yosemite Conservancy.
