Craig Lindsey (Callister) Gunn Obituary
Craig Lindsey (Callister) Gunn
Resident of San Jose
Almost a year ago, September 14, 2017, Craig Lindsey (Callister) Gunn, died of a broken heart.
Three years before, just after his birthday, three "friends" broke into his home in the early morning hour as he was sleeping, taped him to his bed, beat him up and left him for dead, as they ransacked his house, taking what they wanted and drove off with some of his vehicles.
Neighbors, seeing them drive off in the early morning light with his possessions, thought nothing of it, as he had numerous friends visiting all the time and as he was a gifted mechanic didn't know if those vehicles were his or ones he had repaired for those friends, (As he also did for his neighbors).
If it hadn't been for another (honest) friend, who stopped by to visit, seeing things didn't look right, going in and investigating and finding him severely wounded and still taped to his bed and...since it was the weekend, Craig probably would have died then, if no one had found him until sometime on Monday. But, Craig lingered for three more years and finally died of his injuries, (both physical and emotional) in a nursing home with his niece and a friend by his side and his father just having left after a visit.
Craig was born in Los Angeles on August 25, 1957, and came with his family to the bay area before he was 4 years old. He is survived by two older sisters, his parents and nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, and Britany, whom he considered his daughter as he knew her all of her life and thought of her as such.
He graduated from Piedmont Hills high school and attended classes at Evergreen. He served time in the Navy and was a journeyman tile setter and certified welder. He loved women and everything beautiful. Was a gifted landscaper and self-taught mechanic, having restored and repaired many vehicles: cars, pick-ups and motorcycles. And, made his own vehicles out of parts from other used and un repairable vehicles. With a extensive imagination he was a great writer and artist. He had a lively sense of humor, loved, besides children, women and his family and many friends: cats and music. But, was mystified why others would vandalize, treat violently any living creature or deface, liter and/or and graffiti. A left handed guitar player himself he sang in large choirs in his younger years. He is greatly missed by everyone who loved him and reminded of him by the beauty he left behind...too soon.
