Donald Douglas Law Obituary
Donald Douglas Law
February 2, 1929 - May 5, 2018
Don Law, 89, of Los Gatos, died at home with his beloved wife of 68 years, Joan Emmens Law, by his side. Throughout his life, Don found satisfaction and peace in nature, jazz and a love of learning. He enjoyed golf, sailing, bridge, birdwatching, and exploring both new and familiar places. At home in the Santa Cruz mountains he was surrounded by and drew great pleasure from the beauty of trees, abundant wildlife and stunning views. In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughters Linda (Dan) Carroll and Leigh (Rick) Ramirez and his grandchildren Kyle, Kendall, Leigh, Graham and Nolan. He is survived by his sister, Ruth (Richard) Lawrie, and was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Pearl Law, and his sister, Lucille (Orville) Poler.
After graduating from U.C. Berkeley with a degree in chemical engineering, Don went to work for General Electric in Hanford, Washington. He later worked at Vallecitos Nuclear Center in Pleasanton, California before transferring to GE's San Jose facility. He spent his entire career with GE, except for four memorable years serving as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Don served on and chaired various boards as a member of Skyland Community Church. After retirement, he volunteered as an income tax preparer and was a proud member of the Old Farts men's club in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Don will be remembered most for the way he lovingly shared the adventures and interests of his life with friends and family, and especially with his wife, Joan. His kindness, genuine interest in others and conversational ability put all who met him at ease. He had a curious mind and conversed on a wide variety of topics with intelligence and humor. A memorial service will be held on June 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Skyland Community Church, Los Gatos.
