Fusako Talley, 89, died peacefully in her sleep on August 1, 2019.
Fusako (Otani) was born in Chitose, Hokkaido, Japan on January 1, 1930. After surviving WWII, she met Leon on December in 1954 while he was serving for the US Army. They were married on December 9, 1955. In May 1956, they moved back to the United States. They were stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO and during this time Fusako studied and passed her citizen test to become a US citizen (1958). From there, Fusako and Leon lived in the following states: Wisconsin, Alabama, Nebraska, Missouri, Virginia, Washington, California and in Germany and Okinawa during Leon's military career. Fusako became proficient in Koryu Ikebana Shihan (Japanese flower arrangement) and Kokuseiryu Shigin (Japanese style acapella). In 1980, Fusako and Leon moved to California and made San Jose their home in 1982.
She is survived by her husband, Leon Talley, of 64 years of marriage, her son Narumi (Yukiko) Yanagiya, her brother Yuichi Otani, two grandchildren, Michiko and Kazusige. Fusako was proceeded in death by her parents, five sisters and one brother.
Fusako's wishes were to return to Japan and be buried in the family plot. A memorial service is planned on August 11, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, for family and friends in the States, at the Oak Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park, located at 300 Curtner Avenue, San Jose, CA.
