George Mastrini Obituary
George Mastrini
Passed away Feb. 7, 2020 at age 82
Resident of San Jose
On February 7th, George Mastrini passed away after a gradual decline in health. George was born in San Jose, California to Rose (Azzarello) and Joseph Mastrini. George graduated from San Jose High School where he met his sweetheart, Ethel Clark. He worked a life-long career as a short haul trucker, enabling him to enjoy raising his four daughters, Christine (Greg) Frazier, Kathy Mastrini, Margie Mastrini, and Marleen Clark. Later in life his daughters blessed "Papa" with five grandchildren: Christopher, Danielle, Jordan, Joseph, and William. George was a dedicated member of the Teamsters Union Local 287. He was a proud member of the Italian American Federation and the Sons of Sicily, where he helped prepare innumerable meals with the other members of the kitchen brigade. After his wife Ethel's premature death in 1999, he was lucky enough to meet Barbara Van Deren. They were blessed to share 18 years of marriage together. Barbara's seven children and their families became an important part of his life. George would describe himself as a feisty, hard-headed Italian. What everyone else saw was a kind, loving, and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. His love of gardening and creating food to share was apparent to anyone who knew him. Arguably, one of his first loves was his 1963 Ford F100 truck. During his retirement, George proudly restored his beloved truck. Just last spring, after a Sunday drive in the truck, he beamed like a proud new father. We would like to thank the caregivers at Satellite Dialysis and the medical teams at O'Connor Hospital for their support in George's final years. We will always love him and miss him dearly.
