Irving Ho Obituary

HO, Irving T. -- passed away in the early morning of Monday, April 14th, at the age of 82. He died peacefully in his sleep, ending an almost two year battle with lymphoma. The house was filled with his children and grandchildren when he died, and his beloved wife was by his side. Dr. Ho was born in Fujien, China in 1921 and moved to Taiwan in 1949. He earned his doctorate at Stanford University and spent 16 years working for IBM in East Fishkill, NY. Dr. Ho took a sabbatical to serve as Far Eastern chair professor of electrical engineering at National Taiwan University. In 1979 he left IBM to become vice chairman of the National Science Council and the first director general to Hsinchu Science Park, both in Taiwan. Most recently, he served as chairman to two Silicon Valley companies, Etron Technology and EIC.. Dr. Ho was a devoted husband to Ying Chen Ho. He is remembered with love by his children Allen, Bill, Charles and Linda, and by his grandchildren Julia and Charlotte Von De Bur, and Ethan and Athena Ho. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at LIMA FAMILY MORTUARY, 1315 Hollenbeck Ave., in Sunnyvale, CA 94087. Burial and graveside service will follow immediately afterwards at Gate of Heaven, 22555 Cristo Rey Drive, Los Altos, CA 94024. Visitation hours are Friday, May 2nd, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Lima Family Mortuary. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to please consider the American Cancer Society, 1-800-ACS-2345 and the Pathways Hospice Foundation, 201 San Antonio Circle, Suite 104, Mountain View, CA 94040.
