James Casey Obituary
James Casey
Dec. 7, 1927 - March 7, 2018
Los Gatos, CA
Jim always said he had the Luck of the Irish. It was his good luck when he met Barbie, his loving wife of 64 years. It was his good luck to have two beautiful, adoring daughters, Colleen Mary Casey (spouse of Frank Ruffo) of San Jose, and Sharon Eileen Stottrup (wife of Gene Stottrup), and two granddaughters, Casey Anne and Sara Jeanne, all of Cupertino.
Born December 7th, 1927 to Michael T. and Nellie Bridget (Sullivan) Casey in Worcester, MA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1946-48. He pursued his formal education at Worcester College and Boston University.
Jim's career spanned from Aerojet General (Downey, CA) in the design engineering of cluster bomb units, submunitions for aircraft and artillery ammunition. The family moved to Los Gatos, CA where Jim joined FMC (Defense and Ordinance Divisions) and launched a 23-year marketing career. Jim enjoyed his work, and led an outstanding team to achieve remarkable company growth. In 1979, he was promoted to Division Vice President of Marketing to the U.S. Department of Defense. Jim was the first recipient of the ADPA Firepower Award in 1981. He also received commendations from the Commanding Generals of Fort Benning, Fort Knox and Fort Sill for his work. Jim retired from FMC in 1988, and continued consulting until 1995.
Jim and Barbie traveled extensively from Alaska to Acapulco and from the Greek Islands to Australia and New Zealand. They also enjoyed many trips to the National Parks, but their main source of pleasure was their yearly trek to to Maui, often with the family. Jim cherished his marriage with Barbie (who passed in November 2014); he loved his family, friends and life in Los Gatos. He would tell you today … I had the Luck of the Irish.
Friends are invited to join in a Celebration of Jim's Life and Mass on March 17th at 11:00 am, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 219 Bean Avenue, Los Gatos, and afterward to join the family at his home for refreshments. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to , the USO or the
